For some reason for us peasants living here in Europe, I always associate the Kiwis and the Aussies as being the same, and the same with the Yanks and the Canadians. When I lived in the States, I could not tell the difference between the Americans and the Canadians just from their accents when they talked in proper English and not like the way George Bush does. Even when I did a stop overs in Toronto, I could not tell the difference.

Kikapu,the New Zealand accents are not the same as the Australian accent.We are very much like the South Africans,Anglo-Rhodesians,the Falkland Islanders,& southern English people in the way we speak.Some people down near Dunedin & in the Southland area have a slight trill in their accent,because of the strong Scots influence.A pattern of regional accents in New Zealand is developing allong ethnic lines as well as by location.

Canadians can be distinguished from Americans in their pronouciations of words such as 'about',which is pronounced 'aboat' in Canada,especially in Ontario.
