How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Your name for the wall (The Circumcision Wall) reminded me of an article I read years ago at my London barber while waiting for a hair cut. It was in Penthouse or Playboy and it was titled the "Circumcision Controversy". It covered the pros and cons, arguments by experts (there are experts in all subjects!) and there was no final conclusion, which today reminds me of the Cyprob and gives added prestige to your choice of name!

Would the name be Sunneti Wall (cant remember the actual word but sounds like it) or given the Israeli investment in the north it could be the Barmitzvah Barrier (i like the alliteration) ?

Since we are on anecdotes, did you hear this one. It involves the red or black cap with a long tassle worn by the Evzones?

It was agreed that to modernise the Ottoman Army, they needed also to modernise the dress/uniform code. So it was suggested they adopt the Greek head dress instead of the Turban. Allegedly one of the misisters objected and reportedly said "how dare you suggest we wear a 'Greek' cap?( the word used was not so complimentary, I must add.) The suggestor of the idea allegedly stated that it was easy, 'all you have to do is circumcise the long tassle and the Ottoman Army will wear it with pride'. Hence the Turkish Fez was 'born'. It seems the Greeks turn up everywhere.

Deniz

Nice one!

There is also the story of Karaiskakis, a general during the revolutionary war of 1821. Aksed why he did not leave the Greek side and join the Ottoman army, where a man of his abilities would have great rewards he said:

"We Christians at our baptism have a lock of hair cut off. Ottomans do circumcision. When I die I can imagine the angels of one side pulling me by the hair and the others...... I do not want to put angels to such a dispute".

Your creativeness is unmatchable Kiks.

I could put forward the "Athena Wall" but I am sure that it would not stand up in court

You're right. It has to be fairly "neutral" name.!

Perhaps call it the "Ass Wall", after the Cypriot Donkeys.

 How about Wayward Wall, Kikapu? It's a bit more euphamistic, but makes the same point. ...And if you make it from stray pieces of wood, Greeks might call it To Ntixo tou Stravoksylou. Turkish translation anyone??? Ooooo! All kinds of symbolism, double entendre, and mataphor!

Good as any other name so far Filitsa.

Perhaps it should be called "Turkey Wall", since the TC's will disappear over time, just leaving the Turks behind.

By the way, I don't want a wall between Cypriots, but it is the Partitionist that want to divide Cyprus and the Cypriots, so Kifeas suggested how to help them, for once and for all, after the Partitionist get their percentage, which might be as much as a circumcised foreskin in relationship to what it was attached on to, to begin with.

Hence my original suggestion, The Wall Of Circumcision...It keeps growing on me...ehm...It used to anyway!

You better do something about that, and fast. I still believe in the 'Braying Wall'.

It was taken care of Deniz yegen, but not till I was 11...By then I was too shy to have the ceremony. So they did it in the hospital in Limassol, and the idiots cut off too much skin... I had to get stiches...I was in agony for months...As a result,i am not getting my 8-year-old son circumcised...I couldn't let him go through what i went trough..

Bir,

"The wall of circumcision" is your baby. We are just building on that idea.

Now, if there are some adult male GC's who would want to make a "little" contribution to Bir's wall, they are more than welcome to it.....

If that were to happen, we may have to change the name of the wall to "Weeping Wall" instead.

There is a man in Turkey that does it with a lazer...No pain at all.

I really feel uneasy with the name you have chosen Deniz......The Jews hang notes on their wall, or is that the Chinese?...I dread to think what your one will look like....

As dor Freud would have said there is some significant symbolism here. It was made obvious by Deniz's last post, cold steel and then a lokum, youch!!!!!! Now we have a concrete example of how partition feels to some of us: youch!!. Recent news items covering female circumcision in Africa will let the female contributors to empathize. It is a painful procedure no matter what!

Deniz,

Speak for yourself friend. Me and my brother as well as dozens of other boys all got "clipped" at the same time, outdoors on a Heliport in Nicosia, shortly after we were released from 1 week captivity by the GC Soldiers in 1963.

I don't remember getting a "lokum" either. There was a war going on, so we had to do without the "lokum".

I think there were enough "material" to build the "Sunnet Duvari" back then.

That's pure female genital mutilation on what goes on in Africa by those 15th Century mentality maniacs.
