There is not going to be a partition. So it will be a natural memorial to the Peoples Republic of Cyprus.

         and if am not mistaken most TC's are secretely yearning unification at best on BBF model. Why not they can have access to EU immediately. As Turkey is moving further from EU membership the best option for TC community is BBF solution.

However, Turkey will not allow the TC's to gain EU membership before it does.

i dont want to rain on your parade ...but plans are already a foot to bring the north of cyprus in to E.U as part of a package the U.S is going to table in 08 ...way before TURKEY ....

also ....Get this 2.4 billion aid package if both communities agree to a solution based on the two communities both agreeing to co exist and accepting the island in the state it is but by working towards a dual nationality system and cross border business solutions ..much like belguim will do in the next two years (for those of you unaware Belguim two ethnic groups want to split )

in others cyprus stays divided, refugees compensated at a fixed rate for all ..Turkish cyps get their half of the island recognised ...E.U and U.S investment opportunities and aid to help both communities standard of living be raised.(money is the best inititive )

long story short ...how many refugees will accept 40-60k ...for their land in compensation ...instead of not getting jack for another 20 years

no one come tell me on this forum but i want todays prices ...because no will ever give you that ..live in the real world ...

safe to say that a good 75% of the Greek cypriots will accept the offers during the 08/09 recession

you read it here first folks

snake and crane was in cyprus with me and was advised of the same solution .....

so basically you're saying that Turkey gets recognition in the north EU membership and investment and for all that we get 40-60k each.

As we say in Cyprus En o nous sou tjai eksikollisse. (dream on)

hehhehehe D.T ... i agree bro ..i have loads of land in varosha ... i want to inherit them .but ..do you really believe any of the bodies involved will sanction more money .we can stay in limbo ...or work to a solution ...no body neither GREEK ,NOR TURKISH will offer amounts for more ...no one will offer you $190k for land in todays values ...wake up ...

seriously ...i guarantee that the majority will accept the amounts ... U.N think tanks are working around that figure .
D.T NEXT YEAR ..WE WILL SEE A RECESSION .. WE WILL HAVE POOR PEOPLE in cyprus ,the EURO will create the biggest divide of haves and have nots since the war .... think of them $400 a month people ...struggling ...if you think they will say NO ... i will change my name to islam

As much as I want a solution I cant see how 75% as you claim would agree to this. 40-60k would have bought you a substantial amount of land back in 74. With today's market prices this money would just about buy you a chicken shed. Though I agree compensation will be the only realistic approach the amount has to be in line with today's economy and rightly so.

AND ? so where is the money going to come from ....you expect the ROC or TRNC to hand out something in the region of 20billion to rebuild the island (varoshin )and compensate the refugees ...

Are you in the belief that $300k each would be better yeah ? since a three bed house now in limmassol is near the $250 mark ?
would you not say that the land prices are hugely inflated at the moment ?

artificial since we are building houses for the sake of building ..paphos and napa area now has empty properties on the market for over 16 months .so the builders are building for flats instead ....

The property boom will be offer by the end of next year and we will have a recession ..can not think of a better time than to offer the islanders such an offer ...

Well Oranos, you seem to be well informed and very confident on this issue. Ultimately a solution is needed, if this is going to achieve that goal then so be it.

that would be true had the economy relied on property.

Property prices in Cyprus are closely linked to those in the UK. If there is a UK slump the Brits will not be able to afford the current prices in Cyprus. Many expect to sell their UK houses, buy cheap in Cyprus and live off the profit. The signs are already there, why do you think Gordon Brown is going to call an election this Autumn rather than wait - he knows the economy is in trouble.
