Why wont the Turkish Cypriots give back Varosha

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

If the EU official see that pic they will declare the area a Natura 2000 area, due to the sand dunes that are a special habitat type. So you have a choice, a military area, a development project, or Natura 2000, ah the fate of such places!

But dont get too excited guys. There are beaches in the west of Greece with miles and miles of sand. First time I saw them I could not believe there could be such a long stretch of sand. I always thought the sand dunes of Karpasia were the longest in the world, but things look bigger to a child.

I've heard you've lost the fight; power is heading all the way to the tip. :(

The power is OK because the people who live there are the ones who are asking for it. There is nothing wrong with the electricity going to the tip. What people are protesting is the government using it as an opportunity to pimp yet more of our country to tourists.

And we dont even protest the electricity being used on the lights on the mountain to rub it in our face. Only difference between us is that we dont have a magic lantern to rub on to get our property back.

Hi my family are from the ghost town of Varosha. I just want to know why the TC's will not hand the town back so the GC's can return. I cant understand what the benefit is by keeping the town hostage.

It is not the TC's that decide whether Varosha is handed back or not. It would have been better to occupy and populate the town than to leave it to ruin so speculators and others can get rich at a later date. Its presence in its current state is a blot on the actions of the Turkish army in 1974 and of the politicians since. It should be handed back immeidately, it would cost nothing and might even have some value as a positive gesture, even it it is 33 years too late.
