Cycling the Cypriot Coastline . . .

Feel free to talk about anything that you want.

Phoenix,
One of the things that appeals to me about cycle routes and 'peace' is that it is low key, it is low politics, it is low profile. Basically crossings at the two coastal points could be for cyclists (and pedestrians) only. That way all the difficulties of managing mass numbers of people are avoided. Smuggling etc would only be a theoretical problem.

Moreover, I've always been struck by the obvious advantages that Cyprus has for not only eco-tourism but for cycle tourism. With the exception of the summer months, year round temperatures are pretty good for cycling, and having dedicated cycle routes across the whole island might be a low key way of promoting low impact eco-tourism. A coastal route and a Troodos to Karpas would be ideal starters.

phoenix, cycling has become very popular now in Cyprus with the tourists. They even bring their own bikes with them. There are a few organized trail rides but I suggest you also do a search on the net to see what is available. Here's one.

Phoenix ,

i am fully supporting your idea '' Cycling the Cypriot Coastline . . . ''

from the comments i choose some of them to comment.

Get Real! : A more serious problem is land mines in the green line...

G_R u must be living at moon. Haven’t u got any idea about Mine clearance in Cyprus.

Phoenix : . . . or as many as wish to join us along the way . . TCs included (if they behave!).

What do u mean by saying that ....... TCs if they behave they can join ..... !

What about those land mines you mentioned. They don't go all the way to the edge of the coastline do they?
All the coast lines are free from the land mines at Northern Part of the Cyprus. İ have no idea about Southern part of the Cyprus .Properly G_R will give u information.

Eliko : phoenix, on a more serious note (and may I congratulate you on your intended expedition?) I would like to sponsor you at 10 cents per Km, the proceeds to go to 'miltiades's' Cancer Tulip charity fund.

May be we contact with Cancer Tulip organisation . Cyclist from both sides will join .

I already make donations elsewhere but feel that this may be a venture worthy of attachment to such a cause, what do you think ?.

Phoenix : Well that may be so but we are not defeatists . .

We are presented with obstacles, but I'm not throwing in the towel (well not until it's sweaty ).

Just a little planning that's all we need.

U are correct little planing . While u are passing from the villages u will see with your own eyes how the people will cheer u .

Many Greek Cypriots attends to Classical Car rallies at north without problem.

GOOD LUCK :!: :!: :!:

I am deeply touched. Thank you for the encouragement. You may have an exclusive for Bayrak

On a serious note, do you know what paper work I have to consider before entering the occupied area?

That's based on the assumption that they've cleared everything up but as is the case in all war-torn countries chances are they haven't and it won't be long before we have a victim unfortunately.
