Are the Gcs using recognition as a tool to make us accept their demands, what do TCs really lack that the GCs have, materially? Is the trade off between recognition and living in a GC state against what we have today and can make much better if stick together really worth it? We TCs can work hard at putting our viewpoint accross to the rest of the world which they will understand, as we do this they will take measures to relax the GC strangle hold called isolation.

Caught the meeting between Nicholas Burns and President Papadopoulos yesterday on the news.

Nicholas Burns who is the most senior service diplomat at the State Department used to be US Ambassador to Greece. He is fluentin Greek and a mean zeibekiko dancer. The meeting had some interesting aspects.

Nick Burns was heard clearly on camera addressing Pap as President. He mentioned the need to "make a new beginning in our relationship" meaning between CYprus and the USA.

Referred to the plans of the past as "history" thus relegating the Annan Plan to the garbage can. He said that there is a need to refer to plans (plural) of the past when thinking of a settlement in the future and he supported the July 8 agreements.

ALl was a clear endorsement of Papadopoulos. Yet in Cyprus itself the opposition saw the meeting as negative development. What I saw was a clear message of support for Papadopoulos, and a clear indication that the US is changing policy towards Cyprus.

Anyone else see the exchange yesterday? What was your take on the meeting?

I saw it Nikitas. All he said the US are pressing the UN SG to appoint a representative so that talks start the soonest possible. Some commentators said all the US are trying to do is prevent a negative report for Turkeys evaluation in EU in October, plus another crucial date for Turkey don't remember exactly what.

Forget about the Anglo-Americans my friend. They 've been screwing us for a long time, nothing positive can ever come out of them.All UN proposals, and I mean each and everyone that came from them even from the 60s was a partition proposal.
