Is the trade off between recognition and living in a GC state against what we have today and can make much better if stick together really worth it? We TCs can work hard at putting our viewpoint accross to the rest of the world which they will understand, as we do this they will take measures to relax the GC strangle hold called isolation.

TCs take note of whats being out before by Gcs on this forum can you imagine this mentality in a GC where you are a minority with GC taking decisions on your behalf and influencing your future, shudder at the the thought.

Viewpoint:

You have raised a VERY interesting point and I need you to clarify certain issues.
Clearly the isolation you feel is a symptom of the lack of Recognition.

I've asked you throughout this thread to tell me WHY you have been refused world-wide Recognition.
You are being flippant if you do not address this first. Because therein may lie your answer.

If you have good and valid, justifiable reasons for being denied Recognition . . ALL you TCs have to do is correct those deficiencies and PERHAPS then you may receive the Recognition that deep in your submerged soul you know you cannot survive long-term as a state, without.

And then that would be just great for you TCs!

Your consciences will be clear . . and you'll get recognition for your Presently-Pseudo TRNC. I would rejoice for you and move on.

But I have no fear that Recognition will EVER come to the pseudo-state of yours. Because I know those issues you are running away from are TOO great and numerous and they cannot be ignored.

I'll hazard a guess as to WHY you are REFUSED Recognition:

The policies pursued by Turkey in the occupied area since its invasion of Cyprus constitutes the FIRST case of ethnic cleansing in post-second World War Europe.

It is for this fundamental reason that you are refused any Recognition.

And OK maybe GCs did some bad things . . but they were in defence of their country, not an uncalled for MAJOR offensive.

Whats more, the GCs NEVER systematically raped your women and killed your children . . . this was the policy of the Turkish Army. They showed themselves to still uphold BARBARISM . . . even if some may some "All's fair in .... etc. But I agree these crimes cannot be sadly, undone!

HOWEVER the crime of ethnic cleansing can still be reversed.

Address the issue of ETHNIC cleansing by removing the Turks allowing the refugees back to their homes and then the TCs WILL have Recognition as part of a fine and respected country . . the RoC.

If you are blinkered and wish not to see the very many answers you have had to this question then you will have to wait for the next intelligent discussion to hear it again...There should be one coming your way soon......Did you read the Akritas Plan as I recommended by the way...Perhaps then you can join in at the level at which the subject is being discussed......Phobias can be overcome you know...Just takes a little bit of courage and a reality check....

I have had no intelligent responses to my probings from Viewpoint . . or indeed from yourself. You do not appear to be discussing the points raised to any significant level . . . and I feel much aggrieved and disappointed.

However regarding the Akritas plan as far as I'm concerned, the RoC had every right to move towards self-determination. In my opinion it made reference to the the fact that GC and TC could coexist and that the aim of the GCs was not to oppress the TCs. They took great steps to safeguard the reasonable rights of the minority.

The only thing that gets up your goat is that they had the foresight to predict the reaction of the TCs in staging incidents to prevent implementation of RoC self-determination.

Caught the meeting between Nicholas Burns and President Papadopoulos yesterday on the news.

Nicholas Burns who is the most senior service diplomat at the State Department used to be US Ambassador to Greece. He is fluentin Greek and a mean zeibekiko dancer. The meeting had some interesting aspects.

Nick Burns was heard clearly on camera addressing Pap as President. He mentioned the need to "make a new beginning in our relationship" meaning between CYprus and the USA.

Referred to the plans of the past as "history" thus relegating the Annan Plan to the garbage can. He said that there is a need to refer to plans (plural) of the past when thinking of a settlement in the future and he supported the July 8 agreements.

ALl was a clear endorsement of Papadopoulos. Yet in Cyprus itself the opposition saw the meeting as negative development. What I saw was a clear message of support for Papadopoulos, and a clear indication that the US is changing policy towards Cyprus.

Anyone else see the exchange yesterday? What was your take on the meeting?

Nikitas this is great news. (Although I take with a pinch of salt any "support" from the US)

But how does this relate to Recognition or lack of for Viewpoint's pseudo-state? Is it too little too late for them to be addressing the issue of non-Recognition?

Doesn't GR like to see people

I'm happy if you're happy but doesn't a SINGLE smiley mean "happy" anyways? :?

One smiley means happy, many smileys means very happy.

You just hate seeing Turks and Turkish Cypriots happy because you hate Turks and Turkish Cypriots.

Well Phoenix, when Nick Burns made sure he was heard addressing Pap as Mr President, that was a clear meaning of who the US recognises. The very fact that Nick Burns, a former US ambassador to Greece was selected to meet with Pap is highly relevant. The insistence on the July 8 agreement is a direct rebuke to Talat who tried to backtrack on that particular decision.

And think that this meeting comes afew days after Senator Biden's call for withdrawal of Turkish troops.

Non recognition of the Turkish Cypriot regime is implied in the above. Non recognition has practical ramifications, in terms of participation in international bodies, trade, even in mundane things like insurance etc.

This development is not a cause for celebration. It just shows that there may be a turn in US policy for their own benefit primarily. On the whole one has to admit that for a power who places a lot of reliance on "stability" ie predictability, the Greek side in general has been a lot more stable and predictable, and politically mature, in the last ten years than anyone else in the area.

I see you've managed to denigrate yet another thread.

Did Viewpoint call you in ? . . . so that he/she/it is not pinned down to actually answering anything!

Why don't you use one smiley followed by the desired power like this...

 ^6

...that's "laughing" to the power of 6; now that's hysterical level and you can raise the power to whatever you like!
