So Greece has no interest in Cyprus ha!!!!!

Cyprus, Greece reaffirm joint efforts on Cyprus problem

NICOSIA (Chinaview) -- Cyprus will always collaborate with Greece in the search of a solution to the Cyprus problem, said Cyprus President Tassos Papadopoulos on Sunday.

Papadopoulos made the remarks after a meeting in New York with Greek Foreign Minister Dora Bacoyiannis on the sideline of the session of the 62nd UN General Assembly, the Cyprus News Agency reported.

""As always we have reaffirmed, the targets, efforts and tactics (in our search of a Cyprus settlement) are common,"" Papadopoulos said.

He told reporters that he discussed latest developments concerning the Cyprus problem with the Greek foreign minister, who also briefed him about her meeting with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Saturday.

President Papadopoulos will meet the UN chief later Sunday on how to break the deadlock of the reunification talks between the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot communities on the eastern Mediterranean island.

For several decades, the UN have spared no efforts in persuading the two communities to find a viable comprehensive solution to the Cyprus problem.

But in a referendum held in April 2004, Greek Cypriots rejected a settlement plan by the then UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan because it would not meet their aspiration for the island's reunification, while Turkish Cypriots approved it.

A recent meeting between Papadopoulos and Turkish Cypriot leader Mehmet Ali Talat, who plans to meet Ban Ki-moon next month, failed again to make any breakthrough

A meeting in New York, where both people had to be present, and both had to deal withthe Cyprus issue within the parameters of the UN is hardly a show of interest.

True interest would be to see Greek armed forces asserting their presence in the area between Crete and Cyprus, joint military exercises, Greek army personnel on the ground in Cyprus to a level that would counter a possible Turkish advance. This had been the situation in years past. Since the mid 90s Greece has withdrawn from Cyprus and from initiatives to assert its interests on the island, interests that should be at least equal to those of Turkey and the UK as guarantor power. It has no such policy. The Greeks are clever, they got out of Cyprus quietly and are free of the problem. It is a non issue in Greek political life today. Mehmet Ali Birad has seen the situation for what it is and he is no Greek or sympathizer of Greece. Greece has left the rest of us stuck in a rut and Turkey trapped in the island. You go to admit, it was a clever way to get out and leave everyone else in the mess.

I thought Greece was just distancing itself from the Cyprus problem to avoid political damage that Turkey makes of the association . .

However like other EU countries there is no logical reason why Greece should not ally itself also towards a re-unification of the island and removal of the Turkish Army.

Where do TC's stop being hypocritical? It's okay for them to colaborate with Turkey but not okay for the RoC to collborate with Greece,

equal playing field a term often used on this forum would mean no collaboration wit Turkey = No collaboration with greece. I am affraid I am not politically correct as my friend Nikitas appears to be.

We have never hidden the fact mate........That is the whole point of the argument. Greece on the other hand along with the "RoC" is trying to pull yet another fast one on the TCs. I hope you can see the difference and stop trying to justify everything that the Greeks do to us..

Think of 1963, think of Greek soldiers in Cyprus killing Turkish Cypriots for ENOSIS.

Think of 1974 when Turkey intervened and save us TCs and are still there protecting us.

All of a sudden, Greece who invaded the island in the first place for ENOSIS claim it no longer has any interest in ENOSIS but still has soldiers in the Greek South Cyprus, still backs and advises Greek Cypriots and we are supposed to believe all the lies and ask Turkey to go. DOOOOOOOOOOOHHHHHH!
