Beginning or the final phase of partition?

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby Pyrpolizer » Sat Sep 29, 2007 1:47 pm

I completely agree Nikitas. Not even nations like France can easily maintain borders of 300 Km long... Too much smuggling, too much illegal immigration, too much of everything. It's an uncontrollable situation. And we are not talking only for land to land violations but even for shore to shore. If we have a 2 state solution Cyprus will become the No1 place where mini-submarines will be doing smaggling from one place to another that will be multiple times the legal trade.... Even with the current situation with the so many thousand troops the legal trade through the green line is half the illegal one....

Cyprus is a small island for goodness sake it never accommodated 2 states and never will. It's practically impossible. I wonder if there is any island around the world of about the size of Cyprus which consists of 2 states. Any information anyone?

East Timor,

Now there's a place of stability.....not.!!

You just throw names of places out and expect people to see examples so that the same can be applied to the "TRNC", when in fact, East Timor and the "TRNC", the RoC have vast differences regarding their past history, so don't be so quick to draw parallels.

Can't claim it's exhaustive, but an initial list would be :

- Haiti/Dominican Republic

- Indonesia/East Timor
- Brunei/Malaysia/Indonesia - island of Borneo
- Indonesia/Papua New Guinea
(though all of these islands have massively larger surface area than Cyprus)

And a number of island groups in the Pacific (but not individual islands)

None of a history of political division comparable to Cyprus.

Cooper the question was any divided islands??
and we put them forward now they start to talk about the situaiton in them, whats it to them, the real question was are there any divided and the answer is yes.

What do they care about the TRNC if we agree a land for recognition deal, they start to tell us how bad it will be for us, whats it to them if thats the route we choose...they should rejoice if things go badly at least it will not be forced on us by GCs which would be a thousands time more difficult to bear.

Actually the question was for any divided island of ABOUT THE SIZE OF CYPRUS that managed to achieve a controllable division None of the examples given applies.

CopperLine already admitted he had not replied to the question as set, i.e he already admitted those islands "have massively larger surface area than Cyprus"

The size is important because you cannot have 10 people on a 1 km rock in the Aegean and put 5 on one side, and 5 on the other to watch the borders so that you have 2 states.

The same in Cyprus. a 300Km border is UNCONTROLABLE.... and I am yet to be shown a similar exaple around the globe where partition of a small island like Cyprus was proved effective and controllable to provide a peaceful envoronment.

Partition is no where near, the vast majority of international community, are in support of BBF so we're not going anywhere yet. Even though some Cypriots want to exchange their properties. The majority of Cypriots belive that the current division of their Island is unfair and unjust and will fight for their rights.

Everyone is free to fight for their rights but so am I, if I respect your right for BBF or unitary then you have to respect mine for agreed partition.
