HAVE I BEEN HAD?

Phoned for a tv guy to fit new booster ariel, told him as we live in Orkolini we were hoping to get some BFBS stations 'not a problem he said, but the reception is better in the winter....................... l'm ok with that don't watch much tv in summer.
He comes.................. l'm out but hubby home, no can't fit a booster you need this and that and they are turning of BFBS at end of year but you need a new ariel as the one you got is old and rusty. So new ariel £45 no extra channels exactly as it was.
My problem here is that l explained why we wanted ariel when l phoned and l know what l ask for...... do all work men think women don't have a brain or don't understand the workings of equipment? anyhow we £45 lighter for nothing..... BUT THERE IS A SHINEY ARIEL SITTING ON ROOF

So its YOU! Your new shiny aerial reflects straight into my living room. The cat chaces the 'moving lights' around the room and has run up the curtains making holes in them.

Please remove your aerial! And the bill for the curtains is £60!

BFBS was supposed to have been switched off from Analogue in February last year as they went digital. How do I know this? Got it from the guy that has installed all the dishes in Dekhelia bases. It was him that was supposed to sitch it off. They didn't lie to you btw, summer the signal from terrestrial tv does deteriate a little bit, don't know this through science, but from watching my TV and relatives TV.

didn't you test to see if you could get the extra channels before parting with cash????????? Why did you pay for something you didn't want!

For those in Larnaca or surrounding areas, so you don't get ripped off, just use "Dish Network" which is between Orphanides and Metro. He knows his stuff in there and not heard any complaints about him yet.

The BFBS system went to digital last February, now they have more channels. It can still be recieved on Analogue as they are still broadcasting at low frequency for those that live on the base and have a portable tv in the bedroom etc. The encoded signal is no longer broadcast (for which you required the decoder box).

The Analogue system that is still broadcast was rumored to be switched off last April but never was. I believe they just intend not to repair it now if the transmiters fail.

Although it is a low frequency, some ppl who live near the base's or high up can still recieve it with assistance from a booster aerial, although i found it is easier if the aerial is on it's side too.

The trick is that if you have an older aerial the engineer will always tell you that you need a new one because the older ones are "not compatible" with the new digital signals. Their argument about aerials being old and rusty is just another excuse for them to get more money out of your pocket. They have to earn money somehow too.

If it works better after adding the booster, why change it unless it's really falling apart or it looks really ugly.

My aerial is about 25 years old and all I did was buy a booster for £15 and plugged it between TV and coax cable behind the TV and didn't have to stick in to the attic. I have good reception and have my £45 still in my pocket.

I don't know what the signal reception is like where you are but if you had a reasonable pic in the first place you more then likely did not need a brand new shiny aerial.

Steady on Eric, are you suggesting that some allegedly reliable enginers cannot be trusted?
