De facto recognition?

Postby pantelis » Wed Mar 02, 2005 12:53 am

While Turkey insists that extending the customs accord to Cyprus does not amount to official recognition of Cyprus, the EU says it amounts to de facto recognition.

Could this "recognition" become the catalyst that would speed up the "solution" process, or result into some sort of dissolution of the Cyprus problem?

Cyprus is a problem for Turkey's EU accession.

There are two ways for Turkey, Americans and British to remove this problem:

1) Force us

2) Convince us

If we resist they will not be able to force us, but we should be prepared to face bad consequences in the process. Are we prepared for that? Or we will bent?

For the second thing to happen, Turkey and the Americans will have to realize that the first thing will be impossible, and they will make the compromises needed.

I believe the "recognition" of RoC by Turkey is just the first step. We should be prepared for a lot more in the next 10-15 years.

Panteli,
Why didn't you ask
You want recognition of the pseudo?
All the TCs would vote yes all the GCs would vote No. In other words you would get the same results.
Nobody cares what you wrote after that.
Speed the solution imish? Who cares? :(

Actually I think he is talking about (de facto) recognition of the RoC by Turkey and not of the TRNC?

I think recognition will speed up the process. I also think that it is inevitable. The more Turkey tries to wiggle out of this, the more foolish they will be! If there is one thing the Turks are good at it is shooting themselves in the foot!

Turkey's recognition of the ROC, would amount to Turkey's recognition of her role in the Cyprus Problem. Turkey has one of the "lead roles" in the entire Cyprus Problem scenario.
By trying to disguise her role, the "END" remains distant!
