As simple as that and in the present circumstances the headgear should not have been warn. The religious undertones are there for all to see. It would have been a good opportunity for her not to wear the headscarf and show us that the religious freaks are not taking over....It has shown us the reality though...

Zan...you are the one missing the point here...This woman has been wearing turban since she was a child,it his her belief and way of life....why should she take it of now??

Agree with Zan. If women wear turban only be because men make them think have to wear. Put women back centuries with this attitude.

Women only choose wear headgear if have bad hair day!

Thank you Zan.... at least one of us is thinking straight.
Iceman this is not a muslim country - i am turkish cypriot and i know for a fact that no one in here honestly cares about religion or actually knows anything about it... so why are you taking this so personally, you are basically fighting with us?

I think you will find that it is a Muslim country but secular as it should be. I have no problem with anyone wearing whta ever they want, as I have said, but it is not quite as bad but try shouting out bomb in an American airport.....It is just not a good idea. Why make trouble as head of state. :?

Since when did a "headscarf" become a "turban" anyway?

I suppose that women all over the world, Christian women included, who wear a "headscarf", like they used to wear here in the UK, and some older women still do, are also wearing a "Turban"?

chuhen and you should not be allowed to carry your red gucci hand bag or yellow green track suit pants.

The point has not been missed at all. She following her religion as she has done for years it is irelevant if her husband is now president. Frankly this is another issue that shows Turkey is behind times. On a personal level I think the woman and her family are discrimintaed against and I hope her husband takes it on himself to change the secularism. Secular society is anot in the dress but in the intelletual nad structural domain.
