"If I had the courage to ride this boat/plane at 51 knots on the water, then I would want to put on my earplugs and turn this sound up to the max.! "

I know EXACTLY what you mean captain! I would do the same, but the music would most probably be Flamenco.

Still , there is nothing better than proper windsurfing :) i went between 1st and Last restaurants on Ladies Mile 6 times today on average 4 minutes per trip :) thats somewhere around 60kmh... scaring poor swimmers in shallow water (had to go close to the shore to maintain high speed)...

Errrr, almost Umit.! :D

We did run into (lucky for us, not literally) several whales between Hawaii and California leg of the cruise and I do have couple of pictures taken at the time by one of the girls on the boat, although not very good pictures, they clearly show the whales. As soon as I can get the scanner to work, I'll put them up for you. As much as it was wonderful seeing these giant creatures so close to the boat, it did create a dilemma for us as to what we should do with them. Do we allow them to get too close to the boat and take the risk that they will not cause any damage to us, no matter how unintentional it might be on their part because this was one of those times, where size DOES matter, or did we want to play it safe and shooed them away instead. We were told by other sailors way early into our cruise on what to do if we should be lucky enough to encounter whales but were too close to the boat to cause alarm, therefore we were prepared handle them if the situation arouse for us, and it did, so after enjoying the sight of these wonderful creatures for a while, it was time to play it safe, specially being in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, so we started the boat's engine to create enough noise to drive them away, which it worked like a charm, as I say it apologetically, for sending these beauties away.!

Our other much bigger concern with whales was of course, if we should ever had the unfortunate bad luck of literally running into a them while they slept. The sudden encounter with such a giant was not something we wanted to ever experience and was always on the lookout for them as much as possible.!

Ray,

We have a lot of windsurfers sailing parallel to the Golden Gate Bridge inside the Bay at high speeds, where only the experience surfers dare to venture out there, specially during maximum ebb tides where a surfer can get pushed into the open ocean at 5-6 knot currents if they can't get back on their boards. Another problem being in the water too long, is the incoming and outgoing ships passing under the Golden Gate Bridge, which would be very easy to get run over by them.

Have you ever been to a place called Tarifa in Spain (Straits of Gibraltar), which is the windiest place I have ever seen in my life. It is meant to be surfers paradise.! It’s very windy there at all times, day or night.!

I was sailing on the San Francisco Bay few weeks ago and I got these pictures from the water. I thought you might appreciate them.
