I hate Archbishop Makarios.

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

This is insane...You people are living in cookoo land if you can't see what kind of man he really was. You're seriously in denial! You just don't get it...if a BISHOP is endorsing murder OF ANYONE NO MATTER WHAT THE REASON MAY BE then this tells you that something is NOT RIGHT!!!!!!!!! And given how he was precieved by MOST OF THE WORLD I can't believe you then turn around and say it was propaganda or false.... This is truly shocking and in a way frightening!!!

This is the type of conversation GCs should be having through PMs and not in a public forum while trying to convince TCs on the idea of unification.

is this the man who you say he endorsed murder?

Makarios interview to Orianna Falacci (You can search for it at the Cyprus conflict web site)

O.F.: So you too were expecting the coup.

M.: No. I never thought they'd be so stupid as to order a coup against me. In fact, to me it seemed impossible that they wouldn't consider its consequences. I mean Turkish intervention. At the most I thought they might do such a thing by making a deal with Turkey, that is, authorizing Turkey to intervene so that Greece could then respond, to be followed by partition and double enosis. I went on thinking so even after the coup, when I got to London. It took some time for me to realize that Ioannides had simply acted out of a lack of intelligence. And yet I knew him. In 1963 and 1964 he had been in Cyprus as an officer of the National Guard, and one fill day he came to see me, accompanied by Sampson, in order to Aexplain to me secretly a plan that would settle everything.@ He had bowed to me, he had kissed my hand most respectfully, then: "Beatitude, here's the plan. To attack the Turkish Cypriots suddenly, everywhere on the island. To eliminate them one and all. Stop." I was flabbergasted. I told him I couldn't agree with him, that I couldn't even conceive the idea of killing so many innocent people. He kissed my hand again and went away in a huff. I tell you, he's a criminal.

Sorry, but I challenge ALL wrongs!

I don't mind you challenging ALL wrongs Phoenix.

Phoenix must understand that derogatory comments against the Turkish people will undoubtedly be seen by our T/C compatriots as insulting. Constructive criticism is one thing but vilifying an entire nation is another , SINCE IT PUTS YOU IN THE SAME CATEGORY AS THE TWO TWO SCARE MONGERS ON THIS FORUM .

Miltiades, they are not my compatriots who betray my country to the Turks.
I pass rhetoric because I am a pacifist. I have no other way.

Yous last comments were deeply hurtful, Phoenix. Whatever happened we are still compatriots. We belong to the same country. If most of the GCs were not for Enosis, prior to 1963, are they traitors too, are they not your compatriots?

No hurt intended for you Denizaksulu. :(

But, it is not a matter of "whatever happened" we should still view you as compatriots. If you are not with us, you are against us. You can't have it BOTH ways. It's either us or Turkey. To date, you have chosen Turkey. . .

So don't call me a compatriot as that would imply I am ruled by Turkey same as you are.

Is that 'you' in singular or 'you' in the plural?

He didn't endorse murder but a liberation struggle. Do you think the priests in any country under foreign occupation would not do the same?

And Makarios was very respected in the International community. Apparently you got the wrong impression because all you read about him are some selective British (the ones he fought against) articles that the Turkish propaganda keeps reproducing.

He has the blood of many TCs on his hands and was the cause of our suffering he was an obnoxsious joke in the international community. How ironic you defend a priest who turned a blind eye to the slaughter of my people and you expect us to accept he was a saint. He was scum and got what deserved at the right time good riddens to rubbish. Whatever you say will not change any TCs mind as for us he was your leader who inflicted a lot of hardship and suffering on "his people" the TCs.
