I believe this is good for all Cypriots, that everyone can be owners of the whole island once again and not just a part of it, as in the case of a Partition. We can achieve this with a True Federation states that the TC's can still be a majority in the North.
Kikapu a great precise post above. Calls it for what it is.
Do you really believe though that in a Cyprus of two states within a federal government structure, TC's will still be the majority in the north, I doubt it my friend. Lemesos and Paphos are bursting at the sims with land values as high as a kite. All those TC's who have land in the south and lots of it, am sure will move back and claim their properties don't you think. Why would someone choose to live in te north, in a GC refugee home when they can move to Lemesos, live in their own hme sell one of their plots and probably have enough to retire on. Same with Paphos.
That is not to say that I am pro north state to have that opportunity, however I personally do not see it as a long term vision for Cyprus or its people. It is still divided along ethnic lines. Unfortunately neither Talat, Papadopoulos, Zan or VP are visionary enough to see that they have responsibilyt to the future generations of Cypriots to act today to save them from the same fate this generation has faced.
A trully visionary leader will be pushing for Cypriot people one people one identity one Island nation with the freedoms to move and settle in a truly democratic nation.
This issue aside, I do believe that Papadopoulos and the Church of Cyprus are doing a lot less that can be done on solving this issue. If Talat will accet it am sure there is enough Church land in the north to exchange it with TC owned land in the south, so why not cut a deal that refugees are given the right of return to their property, TC's get Church land in exchnge for their property in the south of equivalent proportion and take this country to the next step of a united Cyprus under a True Federal system such as that of Germany, US and Australia to mention oa few. If land is the sticking point why not push the church aside and take some positive action? The RoC is also to blame on the staleeta as they are not doing enough. And they need to be. Some of us want to return and live in our homeland withought having to be conscripted in the school that teaches you to take lives.
