3 or 4 for a tenner at Larnaca market?

Feel free to talk about anything that you want.

At the market in Limassol there are heaps of Brits ripping of Brits and give better deals to Cypriot's (maybe they think the locals would know what the local price really was) While many Cypriot businesses charge the Brits more, the Brits are far better at ripping of the Brits, I recently looked a property for 30,000 pounds and while i was there a British salesman turned up with a English couple and i over heard the price offered to them at 90,000 pounds!! I didn't buy as you could buy better for 20,000 pounds

Queenslander,

sorry, but are you saying you were offered the property for 30K and the British couple for 90K ? Seems something odd.

Also what could you possibley get for 20 or 30K these days, assuming it wasn't years ago that you are talking about?

Just a bit confused.

I have assumed you meant £ and that it is in cyprus southside we are talking about ??

Sorry if any misunderstanding mate.

I am sure there is plenty of robbing going on here. I know there is. It's a common fact. But its the first time I have seen it in action myself. Thats why I posted on here about it. Usually I dont buy anything anywhere unless there are prices displayed.....and yes...even this isnt a guarantee......just have to use your common!

noticed this a long time ago. key phrase i learnt ' what is the price for locals/residents' no matter where, car hires, waterparks etc. you will be surprised how different it is.

new one that seems to be happening, nearly caught me out a couple of times is the dual pricing with the euro. when i noticed it on the reciept, typical shrug of the shoulders with the bottom lip sticking out followed by, i am sorry my friend it was a mistake..... whatever........ pound sign and euro are similar, but not that close. oh, and the colour of the price label was different, and as it was a local shop, i assume he put them on so would know the difference in colour at least.

these are pirate films, so that is a contradiction in terms.

there is one golden rule in all this, - 1 rule for one, 1 for another.

reminds me, i am convinced that if i go shopping and fill my trolley with the same as a cypriot, the prices won't be the same. might put it to the test one day.

That's true :)

I visited a friend a few weeks ago in a small village near Larnaca and was told of a stone house for sale on a full plot for £34,000 ~~ we finished our drink and went to look at the house ~ well it was pretty run down and would probably cost virtually the same to repair as knock down and build new .

It was certainly well worth the investment even if only for the land and I had the cash available to buy it ~~ we went to see the seller to get more information and he told us that it was sold that very morning .

The seller had made it known at the local coffee shop the previous evening that he wanted to sell and some one obviously saw the potential and gave the guy £34,000 cash the very next day and didn't even haggle over the price  .

You have to be pretty dam quick to get bargains like this but they are out there and available ~~ one thing's for sure you won't find many of these bargains from the estate agents ~ only by word of mouth from the village .
