IS THIS ONE OF THE GREATEST SONGS EVER WRITTEN ?

George benson

I believe the children are our future
Teach them well and let them lead the way
Show them all the beauty they possess inside
Give them a sense of pride to make it easier
Let the children's laughter remind us how we used to be
Everybody is searching for a hero
People need someone to look up to
I never found anyone to fulfill my needs
A lonely place to be
So I learned to depend on me

Chorus:
I decided long ago, never to walk in anyone's shadows
If I fail, if I succeed
At least I live as I believe
No matter what they take from me
They can't take away my dignity
Because the greatest love of all
Is happening to me
I found the greatest love of all
Inside of me
The greatest love of all
Is easy to achieve
Learning to love yourself
It is the greatest love of all

I believe the children are our future
Teach them well and let them lead the way
Show them all the beauty they possess inside
Give them a sense of pride to make it easier
Let the children's laughter remind us how we used to be

Chorus:
I decided long ago, never to walk in anyone's shadows
If I fail, if I succeed
At least I live as I believe
No matter what they take from me
They can't take away my dignity
Because the greatest love of all
Is happening to me
I found the greatest love of all
Inside of me
The greatest love of all
Is easy to achieve
Learning to love yourself
It is the greatest love of all

A beautiful song co written by Linda Creed and Mike Masser

Linda died in 1986 from cancer

She set up a cancer foundation using royalties from her many songs to fund it then and now

On a personal note I preffered the Whitney Houston version but what beautiful Lyrics

digressing a little from the original title of the thread

Do you not also think that 'The greatest song ever written' can also depend on your state of mind at that time.

I know with me it does and there are so many lyrics/words (which I think are more important than the music) written by people that can sum up our feelings in words far better than us less talented individuals ever could.

and also that a lot of these words are transferable to our own situation and may be not what the author had in mind when they were written?

music is like the spoken word or a thought it has vibrations and , if you listen to a sad song you feel sad, if you listen to a happy song you feel happy, but most importantly if you can relate to that song, many songs today i dont listen to on the ground that i cant understand a darn words they say and i never listen to any sad songs becouse it disturbs my inner harmony

In a recent survey/poll John Lennon's 'Imagine' came out top of the all time list.

In another survey Deep Purples 'Smoke On The Water' was voted best 'Rock' riff of all time, it started more guitarists on their road to glory/failure/notoriaty than any other.

Procul Harems 'Whiter Shade Of Pale' also came very high.
