I agree and thats what I got, the place was basic but clean, the towels and sheets were changed daily and it was good value for money, but I could have been just lucky cause I would have complained believe me.

I don't want to sound irritating , but very often I hear people complaining about Cyprus accommodation, etc. I wonder why they don't just get out and never come back. On the contrary they end up coming every next year. :?

The problem is that it's not always the same people coming back ~ just another lot of unsuspecting mugs the following year ~~ lots of my work colleagues and friends have told me that they were very dissatisfied with Cyprus as a holiday destination ~ fair enough there are some that enjoyed it immensely but sadly most thought they had been ripped off and won't return.

You only had to walk along the popular tourist beaches and see how empty they were ( except for the Cyprus holiday period ) to gauge the drop in tourists this year ~~ Cyprus is no longer a value for money place to holiday.

Kurupetos, if you had read my post, you would have seen that I was not moaning about the accomodation,I was merely commenting on the evening entertainment being dire for holiday makers(the backbone of Cyprus income).I said the room was clean and food good and staff pleasant(where is there a complaint in there?).Once again I am not allowed an opinion without being haranged in here.

seems there is some mixed opinions on this, they travel a lot, recently over to Thailand, they always go all inclusive as his mother is disabled so can't walk very far.

by no means, in my opinion, should it matter on how much is paid. A star rating on a hotel is to give you an idea what to expect, and is global.

If i stay in a 5* hotel, i expect quality food, professional service etc. If i stay in a 2* hotel, i expect a grumpy local to hand me some keys to a basic accomodated room.

This is what the tourist board is for and that is why i think it is right to contact them.

If you went to a restaurant and paid cheap price for it, would it be right for them to give you food poisoning, or serve it on dirty plates? no, so it is irrelevant on the price that is paid.

exactly

Certain standards are supposed to be met but it seems that some holiday destinations and Cyprus being one of them are letting those standards drop.

Whether it's greed / complacency or they couldn't care less the end result will be no tourists ~~ with the knock on effect of a faltering economy in a country reliant on the tourists money to survive

My friends parents have come out here on a 2 week holiday and are staying in an all inclusive 4* hotel in paphos. It is a disgrace, service is very poor, the room is filthy on their arrival, no fresh towels have been provided since sunday etc.

This really needs reporting. IMHO Tourism is quite low this year and these tend to be the reasons why.

i am wondering if they requested fresh towels? alot of places don't change linens at all anymore unless requested. it's better for the environment and keeps costs down. (of course you get clean linens at the start....)

room maintenace service is provided at this hotel, or at least they were told this, as i mentioned, due to a disablity, they always check and were told this.

in experiance, used towels are left either in the bathroom bath or floor to be replaced, they havent been.

the bed is also to be made/changed daily. if that means pulling the top sheet over to make it look neat but the undersheets are not touched, then they are getting that service i suppose.

Bill,

I am a Cypriot but totally agree with you. I remember back in the 90s the same exact buildings and facilities in places like Larnaca and Agia Napa we have today, in other words no significant progress has been done. The only difference is the 5 times higher prices while the average Cypriot gets more or less the same salary. I don't know if it's because the EU or because some people (hotel owners, real estate developers, business owners, etc.) have become greedy but it sucks. For example I read in the newspaper that fresh milk and dairy products are the most expensive in the EU (twice higher than the EU average). :x

Kurupetos,

Apology accepted.I can understand as a Cypriot you are naturally not happy when people complain about your country. However,I think that the few are making money at the expense of yourself and people like you.I agree the average Cypriot wage is very poor compared with the cost of living now.Developers are making a fortune out of the Brits,Germans,Dutch etc coming over and buying properties to either use for holidays or to retire to and are offering nothing in return once they have our money. We have been treated very badly by a man who I thought was an honest and trustworthy person. He promised my husband work etc when we bought our property from him.air conditioning as part of the purchase price etc etc etc. What did we get? No job.no air con etc etc etc.Can you see why we are unhappy? My husband is only a lorry driver and I am retired,so not the wealthy Brit you think we all are!Despite this man,we still love Cyprus and the majority of it's people so it is not all negative.
