If you are in Cyprus you need Cypriot internet anyways ;) Just a modem without a connection will do nothing.

Don't you just love down-town Nicosia... everyone's on the net but nobody knows where they're getting their bandwidth from!

I was once called out to a customer (a couple of lawyers on a high rise) who complained that his newly acquired; "super-fast" to use his words, wireless Internet connection from his laptop suddenly stopped working and was fuming!

Upon inspection I asked "Where's your access point?" and he replied "What's that?" Apparently he didn't even have an ISP and the neighbor’s wireless LAN was down!

For a modem, you will need a phone line, now for a phone line, if you are not cypriot, you will need to pay a gaurantee, which I think is 100 cyp pound, unless it's gone up now?

So for cytanet, you can pay from 20 cyp a month to 40 cyp a month, depending on the speed you want.

You can get wireless from companies like cablenet but they are not operating in certain areas yet, you don't pay this 100 gaurantee as you don't need a phone line.

Cablenet is something like 15-20 a month

I didn't have to. Someone told me that it is if you are renting.

He was quite embarrassed after I explained that he was complaining about something he wasn't entitled to! Being a lawyer he starting asking about possible legal implications...

In a nutshell he paid for an hour's on-site labour just to find out that he was a jerk!
