Your right mate i most certainly do need to read up on the history of the conflics in Cyprus but i would rather hear it from the horses mouth rather than a book maybe we could meet up sometime over a pint and you could tell me all about it first hand then i would have the answer to both sides of the story as there is two sides to this story is'nt there? Maybe not in your eyes? Incidently my grandmother and her friend were murdered by a TC soldier on leave in Limassol then the drunken soldier lost control of his bike mounted the pavement on October Road in june 1985 and killed them both my grandfather got no compensation from either the Cypriot or Turkish Government and the soldier claimed diplomatic amunity and served a 3 month jail sentence in Turkey.
A year later my grandad commited suicide taking his own life as he could cope no longer with the loss of the love of his life and his chiidhood sweetheart and kept blaiming himself for my grannys death.

Howdy DT. Sorry for not replying to you sooner...........better late than never eh............As far as my mother can recall she was informed by the police dealing with my grans death he was either Turkish or TC serving with the United Nations Peacekeeping Force (UNFICYP) bearing in mind this was more than 23 years ago.

Highlander,

how can a peacekeeper keeping the peace between the Greeks and the Turks be Turkish?

In 85 if a Turkish soldier was spotted strolling in Limassol, the chances are that he would be shot or arrested.

First he stated that it was a Turkish soldier was on leave in Limassol :?, and now he states that it was a Turkish peacekeeper on leave in Limassol.

The guy is obviously a couple of pavers short of a pavement.

He is obviously not telling the truth. He is not to be taken seriously at all.

The story about his poisoned dog is obviously all lies as well.

Oracle and Floda have him figured out only too well.

As an 'evil Cypriot bastard' who quite enjoys the odd trip to a 'shitehole of a village' I think perhaps you should relocate from the whole island 'out of disgust'.

I'm not really an animal lover, but (generally speaking) I reckon you did the right thing to move from Cyprus. Leaving if you don't get on with a place is so much more sensible than forming a 'little England' and whinging about everything you disagree with in a foreign country.

Just goes to show the Scots really are smarter than the English :D

A new collar has recently become available to those owners who are genuinely concerned about the welfare of their dogs.

Apparently, it works by sending a signal to the owner's mobile phone whenever the temperature reaches a (pre-set) certain temperature, particularly useful to any owner that is prone to leaving his/her charge in the confines of the car on a hot day, whilst he/she is indulging themselves (shopping or drinking) elsewhere.

The added advantage being, that should there be any fatalities resulting in neglect by the owner, the opportunity to 'Cop Out' of responsibility would be greatly reduced since the signal of distress would be on record, thus protecting the innocent villagers (if the incident actually took place in such a village) from being accused of the foul act of poisoning or otherwise blamed for the thoughtless actions of the owner.

Quite a useful article for a responsible dog owner to have IMHO, a thoughtful and suitable gift for Christmas (or Hogmanay, if the owner happens to be a Scotsman/woman) well worth consideration for the coming season.

No, but I have considered producing 'Wooden Spoons' for this festive time of year, quite essential when so many are preparing their Christmas puddings and other seasonal delicacies.

Which brings me to the subject of 'Haggis and Hogmanay' (Lord knows why) since THAT traditional delicacy's ingredients also require some serious mixing.

It occurs to me that, if Scotsmen were to afford their 'DOGS' (on hot summers days) the same attention to detail as they do their 'Haggis' (on cold winters nights) there would have been little (if any) point in producing this thread at all.

At the very least, I think we have ALL discovered the folly in leaving a dog unattended in a locked car on a hot summers day.

Also, the futility of blaming others for our own errors.

Happy new year to you purdey, Good Luck and prosperity to you and your family in 2009. X.
