CLOSE THE GATES!

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Do you agree with Pantelis' assertion that pre-April 2003 Green Line restrictions should be re-imposed?

Lots of rumours flying around the north about closure of borders due to increase in summonds served on TCs, now banks are being sued for rent on ex GC properties , whats next???

There are no borders to close. Just the the Turkish army occupying part of our country.

Personally I never crossed to the occupied areas, and I do not plan to do so until this part of my country is freed.

If the occupation army allows GCs to visit the occupied areas or not means absolutely nothing.

Close the gates

Postby EOKA » Wed May 18, 2005 9:52 am

We should close the gates. This will stop all GC's having their cars serviced there and getting their hair done and going to their restaurants just because they are cheap. I too will never cross this border. :x

Close the "borders" and you are going to have a new revolution! This time, a real one! 8,000 TCs working in the South means 8,000 families. 8,000 families with an average of 4 people per family, means 32,000 TCs. Almost 1/3 of the TC population. Cut the bread of 1/3 of your community's population and you will see what will happen. They will burn your house and Denktash’s house and Talat’s house and your “presidential” palace and everything else in the north. They will also cook you for breakfast. Sillygoose!

I understand your point but workers were crossing the borders well before restrictions were relaxed, so those who wish to cross for work will continue to do so unless of course you deny them this right. What I am talking about is that if GCs are not allowed north, to stem the tide of law cases, court summons and the decline inter-community trust etc, will this be a big loss for GCs?? or as Piratis said no big thing he doesnt care, just trying to gather what effect it would have on GCs.
I personally feel the crossing of TCs will naturally decline as the legal issue is forced and if TCs or foreigners are arrested, (although I dont think GCs have the balls to arrest anyone) making everyone crossing feel insecure and uneasy as to what could face them on the other side, arrest, prison, bad treatment etc etc.
But in retaliation the TCs could stop all GCs from crossing, obviously from the reactions I have gotten so far it doesnt seem to concern you so the impact would be very minimal, Ill let Mr Talat know

Close the gates

:) 8) You can tell Talat that he can close the gates to hell as soon as possible. This will prevent us GC's from spending our CYP Pounds in the north. The sooner the borders are closed of the better. I personally have not and will never cross it for as long as I live.

Yes, I would think so, VP. It would probably prove a bad move for whichever side chooses to restrict crossing. I think T-Pap and co. reeeeeeeeeally wouldn't mind if Talat were to make such a decision. What would the Europeans say? Where would your 'lift the isolation' cries go? Bad move, I would think - well, worse for TCs than for GCs. But that's just my opinion.

Oh, and about what you said, about 'not having the balls to arrest anyone'. Sadly, I think they would do it. But I wouldn't call it 'balls'. If they do it, it's going to be for the wrong reasons.
