It was not meant as a black joke. I loved him and his persona. It does sound black but not intentional. It was a stupid bet on a mans life. I was ging to say he could have got run over after having his dinner.

Sorry to correct you Smiler, but it was Richard Whitely that hosted Countdown. Richard Madely was a guy on TV with his wife Judy Finnigan in the afternoon.
