TURKEY SUPPORTS A JUST SOLUTION IN CYPRUS

Postby halil » Tue Sep 04, 2007 11:03 am

The Speaker of the Turkish Grand National Assembly Koksal Toptan has said Turkey has always been demanding a just solution to the Cyprus problem based on political equality of the two sides on the island.
Mr. Toptan was speaking during a visit paid to him by the TRNC Ambassador to Ankara Tamer Gazioglu when he said that Turkey was and is still today rightfully expecting the principles of the international law to be implemented on the issue.
Mr. Toptan will make his first foreign visit to the TRNC next week.
The TRNC Ambassador to Ankara Tamer Gazioglu paid a visit to the Speaker of the Turkish Grand National Assembly Koksal Toptan today.
Speaking during the reception, Mr. Gazioglu pointed to the ongoing good relations between the TRNC and Turkey and expressed the hope that existing relations between the two countries will improve further in the future.

For his part, the Speaker of the Turkish Parliament Koksal Toptan reminded that he will make his first foreign visit to the TRNC next week.

Stating that Turkey is a proud supporter of big developments achieved in the TRNC, Mr. Toptan said his country will continue to provide the necessary support to secure further improvements.
On the Cyprus issue, he stated that Turkey has always been demanding a just solution to the Cyprus problem based on political equality of the two sides on the island.

Noting that Turkey was and is still today rightfully expecting the principles of the international law to be implemented on the Cyprus issue, he said “what we want is what the Turkish Cypriot people want; living in peace and equal rights”.

Stressing that the TRNC and Turkey will not accept any artificial solution on the Cyprus issue, Mr. Toptan said Turkey is closely watching the developments concerning its rights over Cyprus stemming from international agreements.

Rubbish!

1. Who are the two sides on the island that he is referring to? I am sure he is talking about the "KKTC" and the "Greek Cypriot Administration," two "state entities" that exist only in the Turk's fantasy!

2. Based on what international law principle does the TC community constitute a separate people in Cyprus?

3. Which are these "Turkey's rights over Cyprus," and on which international agreement are they based?

I agree with the Turks on this one. Political equality between communities trumps one-man one-vote.

Greek = Turkish = Armenian = Maronite = Latin

Political equality between the 5 communities is the way forward.

And the Rom, the Gypsies, they deserve an equal standing among the others and if we can do that we will be the first country in the world to grant equal status to this persecuted community.

In the rotating presidency I would have no problem at all having a Rom president. He cant be any worse than the ones we have had so far! And for the evil minded here, I am not proposing this due to ulterior motives. Cyprus is not Bi, it is Multi ethnic and multi communal. Seeing this reality will get us out of the impasse of who is the more deserving of the two communities, ALL communities are deserving and equal.

Nikitas, once again I share and support your views.

In relation to your last couple of sentences, how correct you are. However, it would take a real visionary to accept, promote and direct such a nation.

We all know Turks believe in the righteousness of "Political Equality". You will NEVER hear a Turk say to an Armenian "We should have more political power than your community because we outnumber your community 4 to 1". No Sir! That will never happen.

Now you need only to get the Greeks, Armenians, Latins and Maronites on board.

How can Turkey make such a statement when they butchered so may Armenians. I understand that they killed over 1.5 million Armenians in the early 1900's. Do the Armenians and the kurds have the same rights as the native Turks in Turkey. I suspect the answer is no. I agree with Kifeas bullshit statement. Turkey makes these sweeping statements saying they want a just solution. I'm all for a solution but can the Turks really say what they want and stop talking crap. They want their own state end of. The best us Greek Cypriots can hope for is getting back 8% of our land that is being Illegaly Occupied. I'm affraid we will never be able to settle back to our ancestral homes in the North. Shame on Turkey and TC's that keep promoting this bollocks. As for following International Law (Load odf Crap) why do they hand back Varosha as per the UN resolution which states that the Town should be handed back to the UN so the legal GC's can resettle in the town.
