DID JESUS READ AND WRITE

Feel free to talk about anything that you want.

John 8
1But Jesus went to the Mount of Olives. 2At dawn he appeared again in the temple courts, where all the people gathered around him, and he sat down to teach them. 3The teachers of the law and the Pharisees brought in a woman caught in adultery. They made her stand before the group 4and said to Jesus, "Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of adultery. 5In the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women. Now what do you say?" 6They were using this question as a trap, in order to have a basis for accusing him.

But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger. 7When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, "If any one of you is without sin, let him be the first to throw a stone at her." 8Again he stooped down and wrote on the ground.

well he sure knew to write too.

someone is going to come along and argue that he was probably scribbling on the ground and because of some translations errors scrrible was translated incorrectly as write.
i think of all the people who have lived (now again there is an argument whether he was a real person) no one would have been under so much scrutiny as him.

That was a bit interesting, watching the Christian Channel and the road to Damuscus. A very interesting story. Just thought to share. What a shame now a fundametalist Christian babling on.

Don't mistake and confuse the millions of words that have been written about Jesus for 'no one ... been under so much scrutiny as him.' The historical figure of Jesus has not really been scrutinised if we are to understand scrutiny as meeting the standards of corroborative evidence. Shed loads of hearsay, story telling, gossip and sheer make-believe has been written and the credulous and delusional take that as evidence. Forgive them, they know not what they do.

PS.

People seem willing to accept that many of the other characters mentioned in the gospels existed (Herod, Pontius Pilate etc) on far less evidence.

That is just plain wrong, Observer. Maybe that's because historians of any merit don't rely on the gospels as a historical record. Maybe it is that Herod and Pilate are referred to in hundreds of contemporaneous documents and artefacts.

misinterpretation of the Bible

Devil, I bet no one has ever been charged with that before ! Who'd have thought it, someone misintepreting the bible. Whatever next ? Will we find that the pope is catholic ? That bears shit in the woods ?

3. Joseph, Mary and Jesus did flee to Egypt to escape the Herodian edict that all male babies be killed. They obviously returned to Nazareth as soon as the coast was clear, as Jesus was brought up there.

And Devil, take a read of Matthew and compare it with Luke (no need to bother with Mark and John they can't be arsed to even mention it), it is as if there are stories about the early life of two entirely different people. Luke is quite inconsistent with Matthew.

The trouble is, of course, with these kinds of nonsense stories is that they have an infinite life because they and their storytellers refuse to abide by any normal standards of evidence.

I regret intervening in this thread ... it is such a waste of valuable pixels[/b]

You can tell if you have this "mutation" when you have a limb amputated (God forbid ! ), but you still think it's attached and can sense feelings from it.

I was under the impression that all amputees go though similar emotions initially.

Poor Zan, who's gonna tell him that we have removed his brain... he still thinks he can think!

Is that an OXI MORON ??????

That's an OXI......MORON  If it were a JUXTAPOSITION then the two concepts would be unrelated. In this case they are obviously related and therefore an Oxymoron.

@ GR...When have I ever let you down    ...... You got me talking to both yourselves now...

Zan, you do realise we have stumbled into a sacred and Holy thread, where you have to suspend belief, and accept that one entity could be made up of three representatives.

It is most unlikely that Joshua bar Joseph more usually known as Jesus could read or write. He was simply a revolutionary, one of many, who wished to undermine the Roman Empire and that is why he was crucified. Incidentally he was just one of about half a dozen men who are alleged to have performed magic tricks to impress a gullible crowd - the only problem is that crowd still exists today
