Merry Christmas Miltiades, I see you are on good form (as usual), just thought I'd stick this one in for good measure over the festive period.

Hope you didn't splutter your glass of wine over the keyboard !.

Happy New Year and Good Luck to you and your family, looks like we're all going to need a bit of it on account of the Yank's actions in the financial zone.

They've made a right 'bollocks' of the job elsewhere, IMHO.

Congratulations on your foresight Miltiades, I wonder if you are aware of the fact that there are thousands upon thousands of us who (through no fault of our own) have suffered great personal AND serious financial losses due to the political interference of YOUR chosen 'Brothers in arms'.

Such thoughts (I daresay) never enter YOUR head since capitulation (in YOUR case) has led to personal gains.

Others (such as I) can see through the underhanded objectives of those that, even NOW, are working furiously to ensure that the result of their interference will reap them future benefits.

Fortunate you are, to be in a position to boast of your wealth (not a characteristic exhibited by a truly wealthy man) as to myself (and many thousands of others of like mind I am sure) 'we patriots' are more concerned with rectifying the injustices that were foisted upon us, our finances being of less significance even though we may have surmounted the difficulties we also faced (who remained steadfast when times were hard) and can now stand proud of our achievements (if monetary gains be worthy of such emotions).

You think you are on the winning side Miltiades BUT, ultimately you will have to face the truth of your own conscience (no man can sustain lies to himself) and at that time, ALL your wealth will be of little consequence.

Evil has been done, the Devil and his advocates may rejoice at their actions but, YOU (due to your gloating) have placed yourself outside the realms of honesty and respectability, despite your constant protestations to the contrary.

Enjoy your moment of glory Miltiades, the TRUTH will out eventually. IMHO.

Excellent article Floda , let me firstly put you straight about one thing. Firstly I'm not a wealthy man , secondly I do not for one second consider the financial status of an individual as the criteria for measuring that individuals integrity , self respect , honesty and in your case patriotism . I do not blame the West for the financial difficulties that are currently being experienced by the entire world . I have seen in my lifetime at least 3 previous recessions and I have felt just as I'm feeling now the impact of a financial downturn.
My comments were in relation to the practical collapse of Stg against the Euro and the fact that my meagre Cypriot investment was effected at a time when Stg was quite strong against the Cy £.

You appear to me as one who considers the detestation of anything American or Western as the prerequisite of a Cypriot patriot !! Unlike most of my compatriots I'm proud of the achievements of the West , I hold our Western values with high esteem and I do not blame the West for the bloody mess that we find our selves in Cyprus today .
Our political situation is our own creation and our own fault for wanting to destroy everything in order to become a part of a nation that is clearly incapable of looking after its own people let alone the Cypriots to.o

There are a number of reasons as to the exact circumstances responsible for the current world financial meltdown , not least the incompetence of financial institutions coupled with greed and corruption .
Cyprus , although mostly untouched by the credit crunch so far , will I'm afraid face the music sooner rather than later , no nation is an island when it comes to financial matters , the impact that a weak Stg will have , and does have on Cyprus's foreign earnings , investments etc will be felt shortly.

I have on numerous occasions exalted the huge financial gains to Cyprus by the influx of British investments and above all British tourism to the island only to be told by many that we can do without the Brits , well of course we can but I would not want us to go back to the horse and cart mode of transport would you ?
May I finish by praising the West and thanking the USA for our continued freedom and for the efforts and sacrifices made to keep the world safe from terrorist nations who would not hesitate for one second to destroy the entire world in order to satisfy their perverted ideologies.
LONG LIVE THE WEST and I think Floda needs a REST !!

The only worthwhile and honourable things about the West, are those qualities gained from the Greeks, the people (and habits) Miltiades has dissociated himself with in order to live like the Turks, the Brits and the Yanks (ostentatiously)!

Most Cypriots would be content to go back to "Horse and Cart" or whatever such things as you consider demeaning, if it meant not selling out to those who destroy our island.

But you know, I don't think the Cypriots owe their wealth to the Brits' holiday habits, but to the loosening of the shackles of deprivation they kept us under, for nearly 100 years.

Get your priorities right Miltiades... you sound less and less like a Cypriot by the day!

The problem is, the west learned and adopted the greek civilisation and its values, whereas we did not. We hardly know them really but what can you expect from barbarians that just learned greek?

You've worn-out that meaningless over-generalisation.

There are plenty more other maxims from the Hellenic world to choose from, should you wish to re-civilise your barbarous qualities a little, by delving into some classics .....
