How the heck do you work that out? 180 piastres = £1 = 1/0.586 = €1.7065. €1 = 180/1.7065 = 105.48 piastres, according to my calculations or 11 shillings, 6.48 piastres.

You Sure??

20 shillings to a £1

10 piastres to a shilling

= 200 piastres to a pound

I worked the Euro at 60c or 12 shilling to a euro

Then again I'm old and probably senile by now !!!

The piastre and shilling went out 53 years. Assuming a 5-yo kid has some notion of money, (s)he would have to be at least 58 to remember those beautiful scalloped-edged coins (¼, ½ and 1 p). The 4½ p coin looked just like the English 6d (and was interchangeable in slot machines!). The notes started at 5/- (45 p), although these were rare, the 10/- and £1 ones being more usual.

Yes I've seen some of the old coinage

I know when I first got married and lived in the mountains (1978) all the old timers still used to do the pricing in shillings and piastres

Quite confusing for a Brit when I was getting paid in Pounds and mils

CYPRUS
A brief monetary history:
Turkish currency, till 1914
Cyprus pound = 20 shillings = 180 piastres, 1914-1963
Cyprus pound = 1.000 milis, 1963-1983
Cyprus pound = 100 cents, from 1983

By the Gods devil you're right

I was always under the impression that it was 10 piastres to a shilling

My apologies Sir I stand corrected

But I just noticed you are 10 years out o the withdrawal date
