There are a few beautiful women, but there are also a few handsome men. However, the average 21st century Cypriot woman is far from beautiful.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but is only skin deep. The real beauty of the average Cypriot of either gender is in their noble character (I except those for whom greed has become the leitmotif, especially those who exploit tourists).

The ugliness of the male population of Cyprus is obviously going to affect the gene pool sometime in the future, at the moment the beauty of the women is helping to offset this.I am wondering wether they are genetically predisposed to look this way to attract/deflect the attention of the conquering hordes throughout history?

I agree, Rooney is quite ugly but even he is far more handsome than any Cypriot I have ever met.I also noticed the average height for Cypriot men is about 5'1", there is the odd freakishly tall giant over 5'4" tall but they tend to be obese, which adds to the overall ugliness
