Postby Selena79 » Fri Aug 31, 2007 10:22 am

Can anyone tell me how would i get a (cheap) taxi from limassol to larnaca airport? (in the middle of the night) i am afraid if i let my hotel call one, i will have to pay double and no bargain...
can i catch one on the street or you could suggest a telephone-number (company)?
how much should it cost? (it will be my first time in cyprus)
many thanks

Selena,

Your question about taxis in Cyprus is one more reminder that public transport on the island sucks!

Before I rant, I must tell you that I paid 28 CPs to go from Limassol to Nissou three weeks ago.

Now I will rant-

After 25 years absence I had to go twice to Cyprus for business. There is simply no way to move around unless you have a car, or a friend with a car willing to act as chauffeur. But how about friendless visitors who cannot drive for one reason or another?

In those ancient days before everyone had three cars, there were regular bus lines between the main towns as well as to small villages- remember KEM and Lefakiritis buses!

Anyone know of any transportation studies done on Cyprus and its needs in this area?

To be honest i am really afraid. If on the job interview eg goes OK, i will move to Cyprus. Now how the hell am i going to bring my things there?? my plane arrives at night, leaves at night, i should find a flat in Limassol, buy furniture in ikea etc. Its one thing that i dont have any rutin, but driving on the other side will make me crazy... with public transport i could manage the half of these things...

Selena,

If I managed to get used to driving in Greece then you can wing it in Cyprus! HOlding the steering with thr right hand and shifting with the left is the rational way to drive (I learned in the UK). And Cypriots arenot half as crazy driving as Italians, Greeks and some others who apparently aim their cars rather than drive them!

As for public transport- how about starting a company of air conditioned comfortable buses down there?

:-)))) its pretty far from my profession, but in case i get really pissed i will think about it...

i learned to drive the "right" way :-) i drove also in sicily i imagine the cipriots similar... thats why i am afraid.
btw: when i see car-advertisements, is it obvious that the wheel is on the right side, or there are also normal european cars on the island and i have to ask? (have seen some, and on the photo it seemed to be on the right side....)
