Poseur?

O.K. guys, unless you are just born or have been on another planet for the last 10 years you should all know that today is the 10th anniversary of the death of Diana - not Princess Diana as some still insist on calling her. A very tragic event that shook the U.K. and no doubt the world. It will be a date never to be forgotten as, either rightly or wrongly depending on your views, it will always make the news.

My question to you all is:
Can anyone tell me when did Mother Teresa die?
You must all agree that this remarkable woman did a great deal of hard and dedicated work - especially in Calcutta - while living a very meagre life. She worked endlessly with the poor and brought a great deal of comfort and joy into many peoples lives. I believe there were rumours that Pope John Paul II was talking about canonising her (making her a saint). Whether this is true I do not know, but canonisation does take a good few years. (Just done a little research of my own and Mother Teresa was actually beatified, which is the second step towards canonisation - no, do not know first step! - and is now also known as 'Blessed Teresa of Calcutta')

Ten points to the first of you who comes up with the correct answer. PLEASE, NO RESEARCH VIA INTERNET OR ANY OTHER MEANS. THIS HAS TO BE SOMETHING YOU KNOW ALREADY. Will give my reasons for this stipulation when I give you the date, ok?

Enjoy your weekend,
Love

A week after Diana. I guess you are going to say that we made such a fuss over Diana yet MT is hardly remembered. Don't blame the masses blame the media. They make (made) more money from Diana than images of MT

Close enough for the 10 points skyvet. Well done mate. :) It was actually the 5th September 1997, which if my memory serves me correctly was the day of Diana's funeral, or close enough to. Because of all the media attention focused on Diana, it overshadowed a very sad day for such a wonderful lady. Somehow I personally still feel that the media got it wrong to give Mother Teresa's death so little coverage, and it makes me sad to think that everyone can remember when Diana died but not Mother Teresa. Sorry state of affairs.

Sorry Twinkle, was doing my reply to skyvet when your answer came in. Agree wholeheartedly with your comments. Such a sad world when all it thinks about is money! :(

It is a sad world when so many grieve for a woman they don't know who probably did so much for charity out of a need to fill her own empty privliged life, whereas Mother Teresa had nothing and gave everything. I'm sure Diana was a lovely person but she had media appeal and died tragically young which always grabs the headlines. True humanitarianism and charity does not ask for acknowledgement or plaudits but certainly deserves it. :(

PS The first step toward cannonisation is for the vatican to accept that the person was of "heroic vitue" after which they receive the title "venerable". This process usually starts only after 5 years. however the Pope gave his consent for the action to be started earlier than usual for Mother Teresa, who is now known as the Blessed Mother Teresa. There will have to be 2 examples of a miracle to make her a saint , which is the hardest part.

I ditto your sentiments and thank you for the insight towards canonisation. I remember Pop JPII giving the special dispensation, and I know of one 'miracle' not sure if they ever have / will prove a second though!
