I was thinking to take it to a professional to have a look tomorrow since i dont really have a clue from all this stuff... I wonder is the Windows Vista that cause all this or the laptop?? :(

To switch off a frozen laptop keep the on/off button pushed for 5..10 seconds. (hold it down)

A freezing computer can be due to a variety of things. Adware/mulware, legit software violating system memory rules, a badly fragmented hard disk, overheating issues (should beep), critical system errors, there's many...

Basically, a good "OS service & fine-tuning" should fix all these problems but not many engineers know how to do this properly.

From the description you gave nobody can answer your question with any level of accuracy without diagnosing it.

I have similar probs with my new laptop. What the AOL people said is that it was my firewall and other security issues. I had attempted to instal programs without turning off all the security crap first, and then turning the Firewall back on. GR is the expert. As he sez could be one of many reasons. Maybe these faults are inbuilt to keep the Computer Engineers in good nick!
Den

The problem with brand new computers is that the pre-loaded copy of Windows is crap because it contains all the manufacturer's ads and junk. Ideally a new machine should be formatted clean and a FRESH copy of windows/drivers/software installed.

Oh my God...he actually reply with a nice way towards me and without even a single correction ... is it snowing outside or what?

Just kidding

Thank you for the tip with the shut down thing... i will try it next time it will happen.

By the way ... can you explain me what is the OS service since I am not really expert on those things? I will try to find time to take it to the guy I bought it tomorrow but I am not sure if i will make it ... so I would appreciate the extra explanation. Thanks

you could also when it attemps to start up keep pushing f8 constantly this will enable you to start the laptop in safe mode then you can if you made one restore the system back but some laptops are prone to problems with the hard drive if they get knocked to much.... best thing to do is to back up the whole laptop on a external hard drive them no data will be lost.... p.s vista is a bad system at the moment xp is still faster & drivers are freely avalable still go xp. [/youtube]

Keep in mind that files saved under Office 2007 (word/excel/access/powerpoint/pub) will not be accessible under a WinXP system because Office 2007 only works on Vista so Office 2003 may not be able to open them.

The same goes for Lena who is probably writing up all these assignments for Uni in Office 2007 and may decide to go back to XP...

Think of all the problems that happen to the average PC or laptop…it sometimes hangs or crashes, Windows takes too long to load, its far slower than it use to be, it has too much junk on it, some programs just don’t work, it tries to connect by itself to the Internet, messages just keep popping up, you sometimes get blue screens, etc, etc.

These and many others are all signs of a UNHEALTHY Windows (OS = Operating System)

Luckily you can eliminate ALL these problems and boost your computer’s performance with a full OS system service & fine-tuning because Windows is HIGHLY configurable but set to perform “slow & safe” by default. There are some 30-40 steps you need to take to do this properly and it should take a seasoned Engineer around three hours per system.

Most people’s operating system (usually windows) is in a dreadful state but they don’t even know it and just keep using the machine until it totally fails…

Just to give you an idea of what I’m talking about do this little check on your machine now from your desktop…

Right-Click on “My Computer” > “Manage” > “Event Viewer” > “System”

Now check out the list of system errors occurring daily marked with red on your right! Scroll down to see how big that log file is...

Doesn’t that make you happy? :D

I very much doubt it because Office 2007 doesn't even work on XP so it's unlikely that Office 2003 will be "forwards-compatible"!

I don't have any Vista machines here to take you through I'm afraid so I don't know what you're seeing but under Event Viewer in XP you get 3 child-directories called "Application", "Security", and "System".

So i can not actually do much huh?

After the Event Viewer I have 3 directories as you call them ... overview, summary of administrative events (which include the above) and recently viewed notes. :? :? :?
