Class Cyprus - 3rd world, developing, developed?

Feel free to talk about anything that you want.

I don't consider Cyprus to be third world - maybe just a little behind the times, but that in itself is one of the idiosyncrasies that make Cyprus what is is! I have to say that I absolutley LOVE living here, and the Cypriot people are among the friendliest of any nation I have visited (and I have had the priveledge of travelling the world).
What probably would be nice would be the laying of a railway linking the East and West coast, which could be routed to include both the airports. That having been said, the motorway network is brilliant, and far less congested that anything the UK can offer (other than at 3am!) but anything to reduce the number of cars on the road could only be advantageous environmentally.

Very sad, Paris is a beautiful cultural city. The art galleries are fantastic , the architecture amazing (but nothing compared to Barcelona) and the atmosphere wonderful but most cities have homeless and drunks so maybe a little too much emphasis on the bad points here???

London is pretty much the same, wonderful in small doses but I wouldn't want to live there.

Pretty much the same with New York City and Washington, DC. They have some of the most pure neighborhoods in the world but also some of the richest.

The culture and architecture are the reason why the cities are beautiful and whole point of living in these places. This is not just about tourism.

Niki, this is not the point of this topic... the Author claims Cyprus is similar to a 3rd world country, i gave an example that life in Paris for instance as a heart of Europe lets say is much worse. We can talk Architecture and Culture all we want (alltho 80% is stolen by Napoleon) but the fact that the life quality is way lower than here is obvious.

Ray, topics always go off at tangents. it keeps things interesting.

Anyway, from my experience of Cyprus relative to other countries I believe the appreciation of culture by the people is the problem. Of course there are many culturally aware people in Cyprus but so much of the wonderful history is neglected, taken for granted.

As for being a third world country I don't think you will find as many Mercedes or BMWs in other third world countries!!!

Cyprus is certainly not a 3rd world country! It is getting over developed ,and the developers just use any land they are not building on ,as a dumping ground for their rubbish, which just makes it look 3rd world. The only similarity with the 3rd world, is the amount of corruption in the whole countries infrastructure which once in Europe completely ,is going to come as a huge shock to those lining their pockets out of the incomers who bring wealth to the Cypriot people and a wish to just be welcomed as a friend not just a meal ticket. All mediterreanean people hoard junk which rusts and piles up all around their beautiful villages and properties, which does nothing to give the impression of a modern developed country.I have no desire to see Cyprus change too much,it has a charm that makes us want to live there, but get rid of the rubbish, get decent mains sewerage, stop the rip offs and welcome those who only wish to contribute ,not to take!
