I seem to recall a lady making enquiries on the subject of 'Lupus' some time ago on behalf of her young children, apparently the complaint is well catered for (In Lefkosia I believe), perhaps a little research back-tracking on this forum will reveal her identity.

Good luck, I hope you find her.

Hi Anastasia, glad to see that you are back on the forums.

Definition
Lupus is an autoimmune disease that can affect various parts of the body, including the skin, joints, heart, lungs, blood, kidneys and brain. Normally the body's immune system makes proteins called antibodies, to protect the body against viruses, bacteria, and other foreign materials. These foreign materials are called antigens.

In an autoimmune disorder like lupus, the immune system cannot tell the difference between foreign substances and its own cells and tissues. The immune system then makes antibodies directed against itself. These antibodies -- called "auto-antibodies" (auto means 'self') -- cause inflammation, pain and damage in various parts of the body.

Let me know if you need any further information. I am a senior medical secretary for a Consultant Dermatologist in the UK. I can email you any information you require on lupus - or in fact any other dermatological condition.

More than happy to help, also planning on making the big move in 2008 - just watching what the early 08 brings first (vat, euro etc)

Kind regards

Lupus seems to afflict more women than men and more severely too. It is not something to be taken lightly. Though many people who are afflicted with it manage to live long and relatively normal lives, in my lifetime, I'd become acquainted with two women who died from health complications due to Lupus. Both were only in their early forties.
