Greek Classes

Postby Crivens » Tue Aug 28, 2007 3:57 pm

Ok, so just phoned up a place for doing Greek language classes and got told the price was £30 per month. We checked at the same place last year when we got here (November) and they said that it would be £30 per term. I double checked with them though, and now it is £30 per month for the beginner course. We couldn't start last year because everything starts in September and it was a bit too late to join.

After looking on a few forums I found references to courses by the MOE (I assume Ministry of Education) in Limassol for £30 per *year*. This was stated last November.

Can anyone give me an idea if £30pm is the norm (for 2 hours a week I think), and is the MOE £30 per year a mistake by the forum poster? If not then where are these MOE run places?

Also any decent places in Limassol people know about then great, especially if they are decent value for money and if they have classes on the weekend.

Cheers

I made that earlier post and no, it is not a mistake. It is 30 CYP for the whole duration of the course. These classes are held in the public schools once a week.

I paid 150 for 3 months at Intercollege.

The MOE is 30 per school year. They hold the classes in local schools in the evenings and weekends. Call the council to find out where the courses will be held. Problem with these are spaces are limited. My mum did a course with 35 people in the class and you progressed at the pace of the slowest person. Better to go for a smaller class to get better attention.

£30 for the whole duration sounds pretty good. Spaces are limited not so good. Think it will be too late now? Any idea of the council number?

Thanks for the info guys.

You register on the first day so the places haven't even gone yet. First come first served. School year though, so lots of holidays!!!

Ok, so I take it the first day then is the first day of the kids school term? Any idea of how you go about contacting the council? I mean I don't even know where the offices are or anything.

The course was good. Not too basic and the teacher was lovely. There were 4 of us in the first term and 3 in the second. Some of the students were doing the course with our subjects at Intercollege, myself and another girl were taking the course on its own. You have an exam at the end too. Problem is it went to two levels. Basic and intermediate. They don't offer anything further. You learn verbs, past, present and future, genders, adjectives and nouns. Basic vocabulary, days of the week, time, introducing yourself, working etc. I enjoyed it. But you have to use it regularly to keep the memory going !!!!

I went to classes at Episkopi school last year. The course lasted from mid October till May (Easter) and I am sure it was around the 30 pound mark too. I will ask my friend for the telephone number and pass it on. The class was small and the teacher friendly and with very good English.
