Fires in Greece

Postby Murataga » Sat Aug 25, 2007 10:59 pm

As a Turkish Cypriot, I would like to express my sorrow for the innocent lives lost in Greece due to the recent fires. My condolences to people who have suffered and wishes of good luck to those fighting this apparently ongoing hazard.

I just watched BBC news and now realise the seriousness of the fire. The mother with 4 children trying to escape in their car but instead burning to death was very sad.

The death toll so far is around 47 but expected to rise. I pray there are not too many fatalities.

My condolences to all my Greek brothers.

I would be correct and say these fires have hit both GREECE AND TURKEY AND THEY ARE ISSUES THAT WILL EFFECT BOTH OF US ..

Let us pray for the lost souls but also for us to begin using $$$ and technology to tackle these things more quickly and set up preventive measures ..

they say a 56 year or 65 year old man has been arrested on arson charges .,...in my opionion anyone who does this needs a :2guns:

does anyone know if episilon and Nikita ,..are ok ...as i think they are in Greece ...athens i think ?

Oranos and others thank you for your interest and thoughts.

We get fires every summer but this has been like nothing before. There were hundreds of fires starting in the space of a few hours as of Friday morning. Temperatures in the high 30s, low humidity and gale force winds were all part of the scene.

The house smells of burnt pine wood as I sit writing now. Fire fighting planes and choppers were flying low over us all day. Greece has the biggest fleet of fireplanes in EU but they are not enough. More are supposed to be coming in from Italy and France tomorrow.

The best thing that could happen now is a couple of days of steady rain.

best go to church then ,...as i cant see rain coming ... but i understand ...firefighting experts from ITAlY on the way ....who are experts in fire forest damage limitation ....

i think making sure peopkle react quickly - and understand emergency procedures ...

sad really ...all this technology ...we can pinpoint a human being on the planet ....satelite photo them ...but yet ....natuarl disasters since time began and we still cant plan nor prepare for them ...

then again ..check japans emergency planning comitees countless earthquakes and fires ...few deaths ...could it be the planning skills ....and training from office worker to children

ask a ten year japanese child what to do in a fire /earthquake/tidal wave ...and theyll tell you .... this was a target /strategy in place since the 70s ....

plan and overcome ....glad you are ok ...

off to bed now ...pray for you guys ..

Hi Lena,

So it has risen from 47 to 52 in an hour or so. Lets all pray it stays static and the fires are quickly controlled by the fire-brigade. God give strength to all involved.
