Fires in Greece

Feel free to talk about anything that you want.

SN

I am north, in Halandri, my house is full of soot, my dog is even having problems breathing, and even though the wind is northerly we are getting the smell of burnt pine in the house. I am wondering if the wind is bringing it in from Evia, it is only 30-40 kilometers in a straigh line to Aliveri so it is possible.

Situation is bad, but SN, and you know what I mean, more worrying is the efect this will have when the rains come in a few weeks. The erosion worries me more than the fires. I recall the Americans had special anti erosion resins they used in the mountainsides above San Francisco a few years back to stabilise the soil. Wonder if such high tech applications can be used here. And if we will ever wake up to the fact that a forest has to be maintained and taken care of and not just left to "mother nature" as some starry eyed (and some cynical) ecologists insist. Mother nature can be a motherfucker as we see!

this is horrible and saddens me greatly.
i read today they arrested two youths on suspicion of arson, and expect to arrest thier parents as well. this in addition to the old man mentioned earlier in this thread.
i do not understand why anyone would do this. perhaps i am living in a happy world, with my rose colored glasses on. what's wrong here, can someone explain to me?

and lastly, three was way too mush greek in this thread. some of us don't speak greek. can we please not use it???? or if we do, translate it as well?

thanks.

Murataga, why would you, as a Turkish Cypriot, would fell sorry if the country whose people and leadership "conspired" together with us Greek Cypriots in order to "annihilate" you and your community; and which continues for 45 years, in collaboration with us Greek Cypriots, to enforce an "unethical embargo" on your community; is now burning out? If I were in your position, I would have wanted such a country to be burned completely out, like I am honest to say that I would love to see the kemalist fascist regime of Turkey to collapse and the Turkish military to be destroyed for what they have done and continue to do against my country!

I think you are not honest and sincere in saying the above!

Kifeas, I think you are a bit out of order on this one mate, we are dealing with a humanitarian crisis here, political feelings must take a back seat.

In my humble opinion. :(

I think this is a bit of an unfair comment, just because a TC offers condolencies etc should not be scorned on and tarnished with a brush of the majority.

No "aidy," you got it all wrong! I said the above not because Murataga is a TC, but because he is Murataga! Probably he is among the minority of TCs for whom I would have said the above, since the majority of them in this forum are sincere and honest people that I would have never said anything like that, but only to express my appreciation!

Kifeas, this comment was not directed at you, i miss quoted, apologies, it was aimed at the comment to murataga.

Oranos, give me a break and “move your trolley” further down, out of my way! I have nothing to be ashamed of, and I know perfectly well what I am talking about! Keep your usually incomprehensible and unintelligible ranting elsewhere!

What a shame the thread has turned into a chidish squabble.. I am sure Forum members do not want it to continue in this vein.
