Fires in Greece

Feel free to talk about anything that you want.

Tragic news from Greece, my sympathies with all those bereaved and suffering from the result of the fires.

Are the authorities sure that they were deliberately set ?, it seems incredible that a man of such age (as the one apparently arrested) could do such a thing.

What a sad world we all live in.

It is a tragedy for the whole country.

More than 50 dead and the toll is constantly rising, many trapped, many feared dead.About 40 injured were transfered to the hospitals of Pelloponesse.

Karamanlis declared the whole country in a state of emergency and we asked help from the EU.

Italy,France,Spain,Netherlands,Sweden,Norway,Germany,Israel,Iceland,Serbia,Slovenia,Cyprus are some of the countries to come to our aid.
Bulgaria,Romania,Macedonia and Albania announced that they are willing to help in anyway Greece asks.
I havent heard anything about Turkey though.

BBC,CNN,Associated Press and TV5 describe the fires as the worst to hit the planet on the 21st century.

Karamanlis spoke of national mourning and unity. We have declared 3 days of national mourning.

Karamanlis spoke of a plan to destroy the country. There is no doubt that we are talking about arsonism...

The Greek army has interveened to help. The Greek anti-terrorism service and the Greek secret services are said to be investigating as of yesterday since there is widespread concern that the fires are ''imported'' from abroad.

Many scenarios last night indicated a widespread concern....we have heard the TV loosely implying that Turkey might be behind it...some say extreme leftists in Greece are behind it....In fact at some point a few media started transmiting info that Greece might apply Martial Law to prevent anyone from setting fires....Most of the above are only prooven rumours so far...

If deliberate premeditated arson is the cause then the loony left could be considered a suspect.
I'm pleased to note that so many countries have offered assistance and I'm certain Turkey will soon offer help.

I got caught in fires in Halkidiki last year , not as bad as this though . I was told by locals that the fires were started by land owners in conservation areas wanting to clear the land so they would be allowed to build on it .
Hope you are staying safe Nikitas .

Murataga, why would you, as a Turkish Cypriot, would fell sorry if the country whose people and leadership "conspired" together with us Greek Cypriots in order to "annihilate" you and your community; and which continues for 45 years, in collaboration with us Greek Cypriots, to enforce an "unethical embargo" on your community; is now burning out? If I were in your position, I would have wanted such a country to be burned completely out, like I am honest to say that I would love to see the kemalist fascist regime of Turkey to collapse and the Turkish military to be destroyed for what they have done and continue to do against my country!

I think you are not honest and sincere in saying the above!

I think this is a bit of an unfair comment, just because a TC offers condolencies etc should not be scorned on and tarnished with a brush of the majority.

Kifeas, there is a time and a place for political views, and this isn't one of them. Murtaga has offered his condolences with good intentions.

No "aidy," you got it all wrong! I said the above not because Murataga is a TC, but because he is Murataga! Probably he is among the minority of TCs for whom I would have said the above, since the majority of them in this forum are sincere and honest people that I would have never said anything like that, but only to express my appreciation!

Kifeas you can attack the TC another time, not now.For time being just shut up and offer a support note to Greece.

If you are incapable then βουλωσε το για την ωρα.

Right Hazza.I agree.Let Kifeas go find a playground to attack the TC another time.

For the time being if he is incapable of expressing sorrow over Greece's loss i can offer something that will stuff his mouth
