shorts

Feel free to talk about anything that you want.

The only places which will refuse entry in shorts are some 5 star hotel bars and restaurants. I was at a restaurant last night at a special resort I have discovered where there are absolutely no foreign tourists or expats, and all the local men were wearing shorts.

The restaurant where we shall be dining tonight, a village family kentro, discreetly guides well-dressed and badly-dressed clients to different rooms in winter and terraces in summer!

Well Kafenes...I dont know about Paphos but in Nicosia they do tend to do what Devil said or refuse entry. Coast cities tend to accept customers with less formal clothing. But is not a rule.

I agree with Devil apart from supermarket which is quite too much. I dont need to be well dressed to go and get milk.

But if I will go to a restaurant yes I am going to dressed better than the beach out feed and i expect from the male members of my company to dressed more appropriate. When we say appropriate we dont mean a black long trouser all the time. Jeans, linen pants etc are ok and you dont feel that hot if are not too tight. You dont need to get expensive clothes or uncomfortable ones to look good. That also apply to jobs.

Also if you are well dressed, shaved etc in your job ...especially marketing advertising, financial area etc...people do tend to get better impression from you.

Getting dressed up usually means paying more for the same stuff anyway. Call me common/undignified. I aint bothered. Its an individual thing mate!

Grockle? Are you from, living in, or been to Cornwall per chance?

devil wrote:Its also common sense to conduct business appropriately dressed. I don't see bank employees in shorts, so neither should their customers be so attired. I consider a supermarket as a place of business. In fact, I just went down to the village one 10 minutes ago and both I and the supermarket owner were wearing longs. But I was in shorts 2 minutes before I left and 2 minutes after I got back. In fact, I don't go out anywhere in shorts.

You are having a laugh right???? :?

Was at an office in Limassol doing a networking job. Whilst waiting in the reception, a man, local guy around 35-40 years old turned up in a pair of shorts and a t-shirt, wearing a pair of sandles. He told the receptionis that he was there to see whoever it was for a meeting.

To me, that looked very untidy and unprofessional. I can see exactly where Mr Devil is coming from.

Only times I wear shorts are to the beach or at home, thats it.

It is almost impossible to find a tourist in long trousers, they only end up soaking wet with sweat, 3/4 are as dressy as I ever get.I do tend to wear short sleeved shirts or at least a T shirt while dining, I never have my hairy armpits out at the dinner table 8)

I agree that the man in question should have been more appropriately dressed for a meeting, but surely we have the right to be individual, wear what we want and when we want? So long as our personal parts (believe me some people and I include the business type here also, can reveal quite a bit of their bodies on occasion!) are covered and we look decent and more importantly we are comfortable, does it really matter if we are wearing shorts, pants, skirts etc. I wear shorts, flip flops and t-shirts throughout the summer. If I am going out for a meal etc I may wear a skirt, dress pants or even shorts (not all at once!) the latter I dress up with a nice blouse and maybe heels??? Just what is the problem? Not hurting anyone am I?
There are worse things in life believe me.

Propriety of attire ... hmmm. The way one keeps and wears his clothes matters. Some people look more appropriate in clean, well-fitted jeans and a sport coat than others do dressed more formally. I've run into people who think they're dressed appropriately by virtue of slapping on a skirt and top or slacks and a shirt & tie. To them it doesn't matter that they're clothes are ill-fitted, tattered, soiled, wrinkled and mismatched, or that the man forget his belt. Yuck!
