Feel free to talk about anything that you want.

All depends....3/4 shorts/trackie/strides should be fine......but it really depends on wher u r going....me, i always dress casual.......and i'm far too brown to be mistaken for a grockle. Getting dressed up usually means paying more for the same stuff anyway. Call me common/undignified. I aint bothered. Its an individual thing mate!

I must admitt that when Im in Cyprus I always wear shorts , after all Im on a short break and feel quite comfortable wearing them.
A few years ago I was invited by a relation to a garden party , by the swimming pool , it was August and the temperature was in the late 30s . I was astounded that people actualy came to the party wearing suits and ties !!
I turned up appropriately dressed in shorts . I have not been invited since .

I'm in agreement with VW here. Shorts are on for as much of the year as possible usually March through to December. Never have been refused entry to a restaurant and never felt under dressed.

Totally agree with the socks and sandals thing but then cant stand these Crocs that VW wears either.

miltiades, you astound me!, surely the accepted dress code for Brits at garden parties has always been 'formal'.

One should always dress for dinner etc, it is one of the basic principles of good manners.

Since you seem to have adopted so many of their peculiarities I am surprised you overlooked the tradition.

I certainly wouldn't want you at any of MY garden parties or other social events, not on account of what you might be 'Wearing', rather on what you might be 'Swearing'.

Nothing wrong with 3/4 length trousers , a nice shirt and sandals . Don`t forget you are most likely out for the night and not just a meal . Have to agree about the socks with sandals though , near as bad as white socks on a bloke at any time :)

I went to a steak house with my parents the other day. Thought I would wear trousers to look presentable as it is quite a nice place. Place was packed, and I think there was only one other customer wearing trousers. Plus it wasn't as if they were all really young tourists. A good half were Cypriot by the look of it, and most were at least mid thirties. My trousers were nice and light, but it was a pretty hot night, so next time I'm going in with my shorts :)

Now people with really horrible feet... thats another, completely bias story...

Cheers
