Thanks for remembering,Nikitas...

When Talat and Soyer serve their purpose, they will be tossed away like Denktash was...Mr Yonluer's party will come to power on the back of the majority settler voters...Welcome to the Islamic Republic of North Cyprus,as my karma says... :(

Bir,

Do you think the Turkish Military in the "TRNC" is going to exercise it's "Military Coup" options to keep it a "secular state" so that the Casinos and the Whorehouses remain open, not to mention the flow of illegal Drug Trade.

BK, I am surprised that you have not insulted his family or are you saving that for a little later in the thread in case you get stuck again on your arguments?

Makarios was a religious man but yeah I know, he was your type of "leader" because he was not a Muslim and we know you hate anything Muslim or Turkish, you've proven that time and time again.

I know that if a Priest became the "President" of the "RoC" you would go and kiss not his hand bit anther part of his anatomy where he sits on.

Is that the same scenario in the South Greek side with all those casinos and whore houses all over the place kikapu?

In Turkey Imams are employees of the state, right?
Is it the same setup in the North ?

Yes,mate...
In Turkey the secular state governs and pays the salaries of all Imams...
Imams are the poorest paid public servants in Turkey. They are now demanding to be paid overtime, because they start work around 4am and do not finish till midnight...I can't see the government giving in.I think there are around 70,000 imams in Turkey, and this has the potential of equaling the money spend on the military!!!The state would be bankrupt in no time... :D Just a thought...what would happen if the decide to go on strike??? :? :?

It is the same set up in the North, but I have no idea how their salaries compare. They are nowhere as influential as in Turkey. But that might be about to change...

Another Nasreddin Hodja story comes to mind BK. Related to pay: The Hodja was loking extremely miserable and a paaser by asked "what si the mater, why do you look so glum?". Hodja replied, " business is so scarce, no body has died for a long time".

Hodja's/Imams used to live on handouts and their sole incomes were from bereived families. It was funny when I first heard it. Somehow it has lost its sparkle. Must be the way I tell 'em.

No mate,it loses in the translation that's all... :D

I really do not know, but what I do know is, that the Turkish Military have a track record of staging a Military Coups....well at least 4 times in the last 30 years or so, but then again, who's counting.

Apparently, it was okay for your ottoman ancestors to have elevated the priests to the status of the leaders of the Cypriot people, after they invaded in 1571, so that they had somebody to collect for them the heavy taxation that you had imposed on us! At that time the priests were your good friends and collaborators, because they were making your job easier in oppressing and treating us for 300 years as your “Reayas” (your slaves!) Now you do not like them!

I don't think the secular state is in danger,Kikapu...Their purpose here is to remove any doubt that TCs might one day rise up and demand to be heard...Talat is suspect because of his past leftist leanings, and his now-abandoned desire for reunification.Erdogan wants to make sure there is always an alternative more close to his world view. One he can really count on to deliver whatever Ankara wants...The gambling joints, the whorehouses and the drug trade arein safe hands. No one can touch them....As long as the votes go Yonluer's way and he does what he is told... :( :(

Well, that's a relief, that the Whorehouses will be left open to keep the Turkish Troops happy, or else the saying in Turkey about the TC's finding a "Hat hanging on the door, will be a Helmet instead".

It is not in my nature to insult people's families,Eric Dayi...And I am sorry you thought I was insulting yours in the other thread...I assumed that everyone knew of these prejudices regarding the TCs...After all they were published in a book lately and were widely reported in Hurriyet and Milliyet newspapers...I now realise you thought I was making it up and personalising it,hence insulting your moral values...It was obvious that has caused you extreme distress, and you came swinging out like you did.

While I consider your reaction over the top and unexcusable,it is at least understandable.I hardly ever make personal attacks on people in this forum, and I am not proud of the way I behaved towards you. This is as close to an appology as you'll get,so I hope you can live with it... :)

"Relief" is certainly the operative word here,Kikapu... :D

I think a lot of soldiers tried to hang their helmets on doors in Cyprus, but soon found that the prejudices they held were wildly differrent in reality...
