Kill Turks

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby BirKibrisli » Thu Sep 06, 2007 6:08 am

Well well well...I am sensing a certain hope in the air.
That we are finally (excuse the royal WE!!!) getting playful even in a thread like this...Now all we need to do is walk up to each other, look at each other's eyes, and tell each other 3 things we like about the other...
Then we embrace, say sorry, ask for forgiveness, give forgiveness, and swear eternal allegiance to each other...The rest will follow like night follows day... :D

Confusion!

This morning the radio news said that the Greek Cypriot side will not let the talks drift out of the UN network, implying that the Turkish Cypriot side proposed something like this at the meeting. Yet in the recent past it was the Turkish side that said the Greek Cypriots want to go out of UN guidelines and bring in the EU principles.

Any of the political analysts here know what is goind on?

If you dont like it you can jump ship - and without a life jacket. Or would you rather still 'kill Turks'?

WIn votes how? He did not pull any rabbits out of the hat, it was not even a communications victory, it hardly received any covereage or analysis. And Talat is no dummy, he is a politician too, he must have wanted something out of it, but so far I cant figure out what they got out of the meeting. Three hours is along meeting by Cyprus Problem standards. They must have talked about something, and my feeling it is another instant of Cypriot secret diplomacy at work.

Deniz as much I can appreciate the debate that this thread has created and with Tim's all good intentions behind the title, I think it is time to lock it. I really do fnd the title disturbing. Even though a fact it still giving it it time and place and I think we need to move beyond it.

Deniz,

That was a good analysis, massdebating will get them somewhere. At least the meetings and the massdebation is happening in Nicosia and not in New York. Remember when our politicians would travel from Cyprus to New York to mass debate? If nothing else it must be cheaper to do it in Nicosia.

Now that you are here, can you please tell me the meaning of KaimakChalan (phonetic spelling) which is the name of a mountain here in Greece?

My fav topic, discussing languages. I am no expert on such matters but find it extrmely stimulaing to the searching mind.

Kaymak= dairy cream (or to slip)
in this case dairy cream

chalan = one who steals, agitates, or one who utises for a purpose, or plays music

There might be two meanings here

1) the cream stealer or cream maker

or in this context and the most likely is

2) 'where they make cream' or creamy yiaourti. Chalmak is the act of agitating the milk to make yogurt drink. So I see a relevance there.
Has that helped you?
Regards
Deniz
