Here's the situation. I have a UK driving license, you know, the old pink paper license, but no Cypriot license. I've been stopped a couple of times for speeding and have had points put on my Cyprus ID.

What would happen if I eventually go over the limit?

if you hgave a uk driving licence they can put you as many fines as they want but they are unable to put points on uk driving licence, points on your cyprus id?? weird my cousin from england the police told him they can only give him fines no points ... he has a pink card

This makes no sense. If you don't have a single point then you should've lost your license. As for getting them back it takes 3 years.

yup got caught using my cell phone while driving 50 quid fine and should have been 2 points, but no points on my uk licence, just the fine.

see its because they cant put points on ur licence. if you have a cypriot one they put up to 12 points then they take it but because u have a uk one they can only give u fines the police told my cousin this... this is coming from a cypriot police officer...

I heard the points are still logged so they are on your record if you do get a CY licence.

If you hold a valid driving licence and take up "normal residence" in a Member State other than the one that issued the licence, the host Member State may enter on the licence any information needed for administration purposes and may apply its national rules on:

the period of validity of the licence;
medical checks (same frequency as for nationals);
tax arrangements (connected with the holding of a licence);
penalties (e.g. a penalty-points licence);
restriction, suspension, withdrawal or cancellation of the licence.
They may exchange the original licence, if necessary.

I guess the key word here is 'may.

I believe in France if you comit an offence that merits penalty points and you have a non french license you are required to get a french one, so that they can add the points to this.
