BAD LANGUAGE

Postby webbo » Fri Aug 17, 2007 5:09 pm

Can anyone tell me why there is so much bad language on this forum? Is it really necessary? :? Also seems to me that it is when the GC's and TC's are slagging each other off? Am I right to think along these lines? If not I apologise in advance, but please guys, no more obusive language eh?

Hi Webbo

I agree, it is all so unecessary but it continues to happen. As my life consists of more than just Moderating CyPob, at times, sometimes it is some hours before inappropriate posts are edited or deleted.

Some of the 'insults' are quite witty and amusing; the difficulty arises in determining what is said in fun - and what is said in malice. It becomes a subjective judgement.

If a post has some positive content, I usually just edit out unpleasantness but anything containing, say, the F word is deleted entirely.

In my mind, insults remain the last resort of those who have lost the argument.

Not only when someone has lost the argument. Insults can also come through pure frustration at ignorance, or arrogance, especially when debating an emotional topic that means a great deal to people. Or simply in retaliation to earlier insults.

Because Turks occupy my home and property. I am polite with everybody else but why should I be polite with them?

I agree Bubbles, so unnecessary and surely posing an argument will be considered more effective without bad language. Swearing just means they don't have the right words in their vocabulary.

Agreed.
Nothing will change. Its hereditary I think. I was taught that those who have to resort to abusive language have already lost half the argument. I wonder who has been most abusive on the forum. Admin, any ideas, or do I have to do my own 'research?'

I would like to see how polite some of you guys would be to a thief that stole your whole property and made you start from zero and he went unpunished and then he comes to rub it on your face telling you that your property is now his own!

Sotos this is the most stupid reason ever posted here...well if you want to insult those who occupy your house...you are not going to find them in this forum....if you want to discuss things here you bust do it politely. No insults!!

i do understand the frustration and the anger under sensitive topic Simon...but this is just a forum....take a breath...calm down....go for a walk and then come back to post....re-read your post before you submit it and the forum will be better...the thing with those people who tend to insult each other etc...is how Lana said it ....lack of knowledge, lost the game, lack of arguments...

And in a way T_C is right....Cypriots do tend to argue a lot!! :?
