Can the London/Zurich Agreements be utilized today in European Cyprus?

Could everyone please have a close look at what was agreed upon at the time and evaluate if it can be REALISTICALLY APPLIED TODAY in the European Cyprus of the 21st century or will the constitution of the Republic of Cyprus have to be modified to better reflect contemporary democratic constitutions in line with EU requirements?

I dont see how it could be implemented in the modern world as the 1960 agreements, if anything, were totally biased towards a particular ethnic community.

Then again, so was the Annan plan lol.

I dont see how you could NOT cause ethnic tension in a country as small as Cyprus if you give one community advantages over the other.

this is an unresolved puzzle in ethnically mixed societies.
and believe me, there is no right answer to the problem.

giving one community more advantages (as you put it) , is exactly as volatile as not giving them. both systems can work and fail.... partly it depends on the system.... partly on their leaders....

If they are not advantages, what would you call them??

Would you also not consider the effect this would have on the Greek Cypriots? The Turks had oppressed them for hundreds of years and now your going to give them constitutional advantages, just like days of the Ottoman Empire, after they had objected to letting the Greek Cypriots, who are indiginous to the island, democratically choose their own destiny (Enosis).

I discuss similar issues with West Indian and West African friends of mine - who think its ridiculous to think that they wouldnt have a chip on their shoulder with the Europeans who oppressed their people for so long because the resentment is passed down from so many generations, its not just going to go away at the click of a finger.

The "Turks-born-on-Cyprus" (TBC) were given too much recognition and a disproportionally large share of the power.

That is why we are in the mess we are in today.

The "Turks-born-on-Cyprus" (TBC) got too big for their boots when handed the prize of power, despite the fact they knew they should not have been on Cyprus in the first place.

It's plain and simple give a Turk an inch and he takes a mile.

Let's not repeat the same mistakes; if we are in a position to FIX things in future, lets be more democratic about the distribution of power.

I realise we have the British to thank for the unfair distribution, it is how they usually end their departures, and the indigenous Cypriots are the victims of this divisive stategy. :(

what makes you so proud to be part of a country in which 99% of the people are "morons, uneducated, visionless and all suffer from a lack of character?" Is it the luscious green valleys of Cyprus you're proud of or the world famous architecture it has?
