[quote="mountainman"]Congratulations Cytanet; you have surpassed yourselves.

Normally it takes me between three and eleven attempts to log on; tonight it has taken twenty one.

Keep up the good work lads.[/quote

Don't seem to have problems getting on line, but do find it irritating when on a 'go slow'. Very annoying indeed!! :( :( I tend to log off and try later as this seems to work!

Yeah, I posted on the other thread that the upload speeds are 512 for 2 and 4mbps.

Did they say how much for 4mbps?

Out of interest I have 1mbps at the minute but forget how much I am paying now for the 2 different sides of the bill (love how they keep up that antiquated way of billing that hasn't existed in the UK for years). Also what will the total price be for 1mbps on the 1st sep (I know it's going down). Just want to compare with 2mbps.

Cheers

Crivens, go to www.speedtest.net and select the London server. I'm a little interested to see what bandwidth you are actually getting on your 1mbps connection.

2mbps upload? Really? On their email they told me 2mbps and 4mbps both had 512k uploads. Still, really good reason to upgrade to 4mbps if that is true. I didn't even get 2mbps in the UK. I'm betting 4mbps is amusingly pricey though. You know, third world, living in a swamp, civil war, no communications for 1000's of miles, massive satalite dish at the top of a mountain type pricey :) I'll bet a beer on it.

We would like to inform you that miVision service is available only to home packages of i-choice. The i-choice BusinessPlus (4 Mbps) is a business packages and therefore cannot support the miVision service.

If you wish to continue having the miVision service in combination with i-choice, you can upgrade the service only up to i-choice 2000.

Bugger. Love the "4mbps is a business package and therefore cannot support the miVision service" line. I'd like them to technically explain that one. :) Obviously they have managed to wangle an extra mbps out of the current bandwidth (perhaps by reducing MiVision bandwidth a little (I think it currently 3mbps or so), which I believe one of the other ISPs does with their setup). By giving a full 4mbps they effectively don't have enough left for MiVision to run properly. So they basically are not really changing how much bandwidth they are giving out I bet (apart from upload speeds).

Well, at the end of the day it's what I wanted in the beginning. Basically if you are giving us 4mbps or so anyway (1mbps for net, and 3mbps for MiVision) then give us the option to decide what we want to do with it. Personally though I would rather the choice of being able to dynamically use the bandwidth. So if I want to watch TV, then flip a switch or something and my net goes down to 1mbps. When I finish then flip it back and I have full 4mbps for the web. Better if it would automatically flip when the MiVision box is turned off/on. I could live with that. I would probably pay a little more for it too.

Got to admit, Cyta is a bit laughable. Try their main website. The bimonthly update page hasn't been updated since november, and the new netrunner product page (link in the middle of main page) gives a 404. Since as long as I remember. Nice...

I was looking at Otenet before. Is that the cable company? I live in Mesa Geitonia, so would I be able to get it? My only downside is that I quite like the MiVision package and I heard Cytanet was better for business (haven't had any problems so far really).

crivens ,...it depends where you live ,i live in arathippou ...we are fine ...but the cost and speed is a joke ...i suggest investigating otenet ..

cyprus is 10 years behind the U.K ...,Much like the mid 90s ..B.T in the u.k dominated the internet access market ... and were slowly upgrading the infrastructure

various companies are offering solutions now ..www.primehome.com of primetel ...are a good choice if they serve your area ...but i am 99% sure of changes in 08/09 ...where OTE NET OF Greece will take over ..they are brilliant and offer a good service to most of the 60million(plus) clients

also if you are looking for business packages ...be wary of cypriot business solutions ...
check www.1and1.co.uk for web solutions

good luck mate

I wouldn't say it is 10 years behind the UK, but definitely at least 3 or 4 when it comes to speed, and more like 5 to 10 when it comes to the structure of it all. What is annoying is by the looks of things they were doing okish for a while (pretty standard when it comes to ADSL) then pretty much sat on things for ages. And yeah, the monopoly doesn't help.

So what happens in 08/09? Is it like when BT had to give up their monopoly?

Thanks for the link, but I already have paid for web space. And yes, it's a UK company (used to jump around quite a few back in the day). Didn't even consider one from Cyprus (mainly UK and US). Think I remember having a shock a while back looking at Cytanet hosting solutions. Real laughable stuff.

Heh, get this from the website : "1MB, 3MB, 5MB, 10MB, 20MB, 50MB, 100MB and 200MB of web space on CYTANET's web servers" - 1mb? Really? Want to know how much it costs? £20 installation and £3 a month. Yep. It actually costs money :) Wow, a whole 200mb max (£21 per month).... These are only on the business plan BTW. As a personal user you get a whole 5mb! Thats £1.20 a month (£1 per mb above that, with installation charge of £5 for each mb...)...

Man, those prices on their live website just make me want to laugh. Honest to God :) I have 10 times the storage of their biggest business package on my phone. Free web solutions offer much more than this (not just in space, but I can't see any mention of ASP/PHP and other scripting support)!!! Apparently though they say "CYTANET 's Web Server is accessible from all over the world". Tears of laughter over this.... :D

Who do they think they are they kidding?...

Cheers
