Galadari: The Turkish Cypriots say that Mr Papadopoulos is a hard liner.
Papadopoulos: From the beginning, they were planning for a separation. But, in fact, the Turkish Cypriots were the ones who committed massacres and in 1963 we asked to increase the police patrols, but they refused. From 1963 to 1974, how many Turkish Cypriots were killed? The answer is, none.
Papadopoulos is the worse type of a liar and Pyrpolyser, you will have a hard time defending his lies. I do not envy you.
Now, one must remember that the period we are examining was immediately after the EOKA struggle. Do not forget that we embarked on an armed struggle for enosis which ended without success only a few months before. We were not ready to bury the dream just yet. Enosis was high on the agenda, in fact, it was the only issue on the agenda. We never accepted the London-Zurich agreements, not because they did not provide for a truly independent Cyprus but because we had our sight firmly turned towards Greece. Had we, the dominant community, accepted that enosis was a forlorn hope and that a united independent Cyprus was the order of the day, no Denktash or any other hard liner from the Turkish Cypriot community, could have disturbed the peace in Cyprus. Our actions armed the extremists and the partitionists who in turn fuelled the intercommunal hate and thus we arrived at the de facto partition which our President is trying hard to consolidate because he thinks that it is, under the circumstances, the second best solution (Helsinki speech).
a) First of all if you read the newspaper article carefully you will notice it has been edited. There is no way Papadopoulos has ever said the Larnaca Airoprt is just 20 Km from "Turkish Cyprus".
Here's the
article
b)The request for increasing the police patrols was NOT in 1963 but in 1967. Read
here
It is more than obvious the editor has CUT OFF some major parts from Papadopoulos reply and messed up the dates. Even the last chicken in Cyprus knows there was violence in Cyprus in 1967, so I don't think Papadopoulos would make such a silly mistake. In your opinion of course he intentionally lied....
b.2)Any news regarding your original manuscript of Papadopoulos interview from PIO??
c)I don't understand what all the remaining rhetoric has to do with ANYTHING I said!
If you are replying to anything specific I said, then just quote it and point me where exactly you disagree.
d)Papadopoulos never said that the current situation is the second best
SOLUTION. Why do you distort things to your like? Every logical person understood he said the present situation is better than the Annan Plan.
