I should add that I fly out of Manchester and not London (which is always cheaper)

Malaga tourism healthy
The popularity of Malaga as a summer destination was highlighted by figures released by the region's airports and tourist board.

Both hotel occupancy and passenger numbers revealed a thriving tourist industry.

On Wednesday August 1st, 50,000 travellers went through Malaga airport.

As a destination in its own right and the gateway into the ever-popular Costa del Sol, the airport is a popular port of entry into Spain, with 6,039 planes expected to land there this month.

Of those, 74 per cent will bring passengers who have found cheap flights with low-cost airlines.

Accommodation along the sunny coast also reveals the reputation that the area has as a top holiday hot spot.

Hotel occupancy along the Costa del Sol is at 90 per cent, with the province expecting a 4.5 per cent increase on last year.

Malaga's growing reputation as not only a place of sun sea and sand but also as a destination where there is alternative entertainment is in part responsible for these numbers.

Does any one know the cost of a taxi ride to the old port in Pafos from Pafos airport. I took a taxi last evening , in view of my plane being delayed for 4 hours , and spoke to the driver in Greek so he knew I wasnt a "tourist" still charged what I thought was a high price of £18.00 , is this the usual cost I wonder ?? bloody expensive for a 15 minute taxi ride.

Welcome back Miltiades.

I was under the impression, all taxis in Cyprus were metered, and if so, surely you were not ripped off by the driver.

First rule we learnt as tourists - agree the price with the driver before you get in! Its common knowledge that their meters "aren't working", and they have a terrible reputation at Pafos airport for bully boy tactics.

The ones on the eastern side are better I have to say, and they generally put prices on a board at the rank.

Today's minor irritation -the holiday we booked on Saturday is now £20pp cheaper. D'oh! Still - 6 weeks and 4 days to go!

700 for flights is a joke. the only way that could have been quoted in my opinion is if no direct flights were available on those dates. Also, I have to ask, why did you buy an apartment without knowing how much it would cost you to get there at all times of the year?

Common sense advice this, but if your looking for the best deal on flights, log on to the airports website which you want to fly from, it will give you details on who fly’s to Cyprus and on what day, then approach the company direct and also through a few teletext flight specialists. I'm flying in from bham international to paphos on Thomson fly for around 200 each, Thomson wanted almost 300.

Thanks Kikapu , this taxi had no meter showing but the taxi driver at the airport told me in advance that the fare was £18.00 , I thought it steep but accepted .I shall be written to the Cyprus Tourist information office requesting clarification as to the legal requirements regarding a meter. If indeed these Taxi drivers are acting illegally they should be curtailed.

Thats the right thing to do Miltiades. Even in the North they are strictly controlled. You can not have ant "illegalities" in the RoC now. I wonder what excuses the 'drivers' will give. You are getting around a bit. Lucky you. I hope everything is fine with your family.
Enjoy.
