I think there is a balance. Too many cheap flights and cheap hotels = chavs. However, the prices quoted on this thread are taking the ****. There is no balance here, just greed.

I wonder if Cyprus is expensive (when booking) for the German, Swiss etc or is it just us Brits that pay over the odds?

Cyprus is a lovely place and I didn't mind spending a few extra quid to visit Paphos because the hotels were nice and the resort was nice but as we all know its changed and the class which was once associated with Paphos has long gone, but the prices have risen.

Only one winner here I'm affraid!!!!!

You could all try the North, oh sorry we are "illegal "and "do not exist".
Give it a try anyway. You can still have your day trips.

hi everyone

I have just arranged my first trip to Cyprus and must say I haven't found it anymore expensive than most other European tourist hotspots. I have just returned from the fiesta hotel palladium palace in Ibiza which is 4 star all inclusive and have just booked to go the ledra beach in September. Even with upgraded seats on flight the ledra beach has worked out cheaper than hotel in ibiza, which from what i understand is about the same quality. Having a quick look around i see you can pick up a late break in September, B&B or HB for around ££300 which isn't too bad

I think in part the price rise for holidays form the UK is partly down to our weather. I read last week that tour operators had received a huge surge in late bookings, inevitably this means fewer bargains are to be had. Regarding the cost of goods in Cyprus, from what i have read on hear they are just starting to fall into line with the likes of Greece and Spain, where in the last two years i have paid anywhere from GBP £1.50 - £7.00 for a beer and from £20 - £100 for a good 3 course meal for 2 with wine

Maybe they are falling in line with the rest of Europe, but wages are below....

As it was with my experience. Cyprus may not be more expensive than most other destinations, will only add to the reasons as why NOT to re visit Cyprus, and instead go somewhere else new to see. So I think in the end, it all washes out evenly with the rest of other European Destinations. Turkey may be an exception to this rule, since they do offer good deals. The only problem with Turkey is, that I don't like, is the fact they include all the meals in the hotel prices. So if you choose to eat outside the hotel, you are paying twice for your meals.

not all too surprising. If wages are to increase, the costs of goods have to increase to support it. No-one would decide to pay the workforce more then put prices up to cover it hoping the economy would stand the price rise. I'm sure once the Euro is introduced things will even out and wages will rise steadily, cost of goods will settle down a little, especially if its been effecting tourist numbers, less tourists means more competition for the bars / restaurants / hotels etc.. = more competitive prices.

We bought a beautiful apartment in Peyia to retire to in 2005.My hubby was promised work on our complex by the developer(never happened, what a surprise?) we lasted 8 months, spent most of our savings and very dissapointedly returned to the uk.Decided to rent here and use the apartment for holidays for ourselves and family members and friends. So far, none of us has been there,so it has say empty and un used for 14months now.The reason? price of flights! In september last year, oldest son and wife said they would like to have it for a week. They trawled the internet, teletext etc and no flights available for the dates they wanted under £700 each! They ended up with a week all inclusive in Tunisia, had a marvellous hotel, fabulous food and drinks(not watered down as in Cyprus all inclusive deals)and the people were very welcoming. The price for this holiday for the 2 of them?£750!! This has happened with 6 lots of people who would have liked to have used the apartment. We will now be selling as it is just sitting there doing nothing but costing us CY£600 a year in expenses.

Its a fact that the flights to Cyprus are expensive especially during the main summer season.

But I must have been over around 12 times in the last 2 years and the most I've ever paid was £264.00 sterling

(Cyprus Airways April 2006)

Last month I paid £210 with Thomas Cook (including extra 5k baggage but no meal...I took me own sandwices)

£700 each ..incredible

Beverly I don't quite know where your family have been looking, we certainly have never paid anything like that, we've paid less than £300 this year and £286 May 2006, these were all return flights for two people not per person, we're flying with Thomas Cook soon.
