They came out with Exel I believe...they just could not find anything cheaper.

Halil........ I can't make up my mind whether your comment is sarcasm, a barbed joke or an unfunny attempt at being funny, or just funny.... but I'm sure lots of people go to Turkey and have a nice time...I did once. Hell, I even know a few people who live there!

I dont think it would be cheaper here in the north......... I searched for ages for my daughter and her 4 children under age of 10, best deal was 1548 pounds sterling self catering for 9 days. She could have gone all inclusive to Turkey for 2 weeks for that amount but wanted to see her Mum.........So Mum paid...... ha ha .

Yes it is just as expensive from mainland Europe!
Friends of ours are coming from France in october, and they've paid exhorbitant rates.

Another friend wants to come from Holland- she saw the prices, thought they were expensive but was going to come anyway, then realised the price was in Cyp. pounds!!! Needless to say she didn't come...

Several others wanted to visit from Germany, but have given up trying to get a decent price...

..aaand the euro is on its way...

This is what it cost for TWO people for two weeks in Cyprus April of this year, which was around Easter I believe. I have always booked my hotels, air, and rental cars separately on the Internet and never as a package since we do not want to stay in the same place for the whole time.

I try not to travel during height of any travel season. If you do, expect to be fleeced.

I enjoy the places much better, before the masses arrive, or after they have left.

kikapu wrote:People always talk about how expensive it is to visit Cyprus for a holiday. Well, our bills have arrived so I thought I would make them public.

I would be interested to know, what would a similar trip would have cost in the "TRNC".?

Our Cyprus trip cost almost the same as our trip to Spain in April 06, with very much similar itinerary, but stayed in simpler hotels, based on what we could find on the spot each day at different locations. Non of the hotels were pre booked, except for the first two nights in Madrid.

It cost almost the same visiting the States the year before in October 05, doing all the National Parks in the Southwestern USA, using Motels for our Lodging.

Those who read the "report" in this thread, and if you have not, you can get the full "report" here http://www.cyprus-forum.com/viewtopic.php?t=11420 to find out what we did and what we did not do. We drove a lot, ate really well with wine, visited all the main attractions from Castles to Historic Ruins. We did not buy anything for ourselves or presents, other than few small items.

Here is the break down of our costs for two weeks in Cyprus in April 07.

Flight for two with Lufthansa... Zurich - Larnaca - Zurich...Total cost : 220 CYP.

Rental Car Compact A/C Manual 1.4 Astra.......Total cost : 275 CYP

Hotels...all 4 star by the coast with breakfast. Nicosia did not have a coast.!! Total cost: 714 CYP.

Cash spent....Total 635 CYP

Total Cost.........1,844 CYP

Not THE Euro.... the same Euro that has ruined every other economy it has touched and seen countless people ripped off? Most Cypriots I have spoken to seem to think they'll be imune to this.....after all...this is Cyprus and they set the rules...not the EU. Ha ha!

'My widget isnt selling at £1. I know. I'll up the price to £2'.

Through a travel company we found that we could book flights and get the price sorted, then through the same company you could then book accomodation if you wished, our favourite hotel came up on the list, the major difference was that it was more than £200 CYP cheaper than booking with the hotel direct, and this was with members discount, I rang the hotel and offered to pay the same as the holiday company were asking but they weren't interested.
We have booked accomodation ourselves in a Brit owned property for just over half the normal price as we will be visiting in November.
Somebody should tell the local people that out of season X% of something is better than O% of nothing.

We're flying Thomas Cook, two people, total cost £297 return.
