No tourists? No wonder!

Feel free to talk about anything that you want.

You said it Baggie.....If people dont actually love coming here they'll go somewhere else. If they appreciated your 'loyalty' they'd actually be wanting you to come here. But the money you spent last year is long gone and forgotten about.

I think the near 20% downturn in tourism this year shows that. But will they learn?? No they'll just up the prices and drive ever more people away. Fleecing the tourist is a game they'll have to stop if this place is going to survive.

The little imp sat on my shoulder is shaking his head.

it's about time the goverment there started to wake up & smell the coffee[although they'd charge you for it]...
some may say or think the prices are high to keep out the lower end of life that would if the price was low enough flock to the island for the full english & pint after pint of cold lager...But saying all that there is a line that should not be crossed & the way the air fare are heading that line will be crossed.
so driving there will soon be the cheaper option....!!

Even in the height of summer and flying from Scotland I can guarentee you I could find cheaper holidays to Cyprus than that. Either you are travelling first class or you are including your spending money in that figure. If you take the time and effort to look for cheaper flights or holidays they are definitely out there.

Cheaper flights often mean limited dates and limited departures and arrivals. This is okay if you're foot loose and fancy free, but when you have a family and a job that require you to plan your holidays, it's difficult to take advantage of these cheaper flights.

no tourists

I take your point filitsa. That might well be the case. I must admit I do hang on as long as I can before booking. However, I have still seen Cyprus holiday prices some 12mths in advance that are still much less than £1700 for 2 adults & 2 kids. I suppose its a case of what standard of holiday you want. But we have all met folk who have spent a fortune and been disappointed and on the other hand some whom have found a cheap holiday that turned out to be fantastic. I just think that there are lots of people who will always pay over the odds in the belief that they will be guaranteed a great holiday and when it does,nt pan out that way they complain they are being ripped off.

Hello everyone

I think there is a balance. Too many cheap flights and cheap hotels = chavs. However, the prices quoted on this thread are taking the ****. There is no balance here, just greed.

I wonder if Cyprus is expensive (when booking) for the German, Swiss etc or is it just us Brits that pay over the odds?

Cyprus is a lovely place and I didn't mind spending a few extra quid to visit Paphos because the hotels were nice and the resort was nice but as we all know its changed and the class which was once associated with Paphos has long gone, but the prices have risen.

Only one winner here I'm affraid!!!!!

Just to state the blooming obvious but if you can't afford to do the holiday, don't fly over so often.
It will save the environment.....and Cyprus is getting so overcrowded with all those Turkish invaders hogging so much of the island.

Sorry to stoop so low, but I am stuck in miserable, wet, foot & mouth ridden U.K. for a few more months.

Where did you get this from?? I meet owners of small businesses almost every day and there isnt one who says he is doing well. Take a good look. The tourists are not here in the numbers you'd think.

To be honest, I dont care how nice the place is. £1400 in air fares??? crazy. And remember...he came here to visit me. If it wasn't for that he WOULD have gone to Spain? And had £700 extra to spend!!!!!!

Cyprus has got greedy and will pay the penalty. There are many better resort places if you want something 'exclusive'. Cyprus, nice as it is, most definately doesnt fit into that bracket.

Keep out the chavs??? Stop pretending Cyprus is something it isnt. The 'waxing lyrical' types fuel this belief in the story that Cyprus is a utopian aphroditesque land full of mystical wonderment. It's an alternative to Spain. Pure and simple. But at the prices they're charging for many it will be 'never again'.

We have been fleeced over £500 to fly go to a grandchilds christening. And that was after spending hours searching for cheap flights. So if you do know anyone offering cheap flights, please tell me!!!

Like I said earlier, one day the air ticket will be one way and Cyprus will have to find someone else to bleed.

Who did they fly with? If it was Cyprus Airways, they are a bigger crook than Dick Tuprin!!! Last time we flew out it cost £375.00 return total (2 people) with BA
