Does anyone know why none of the budget airlines have started flying to Cyprus yet - surely they would make a killing?????

Or perhaps because airport tax is so high here, meaning its not worth their while, they won't be able to advertise it as a budget flight?

Budget airlines need a 45 minute turnround to function econimically; this is not currently possible at Paphos/Larnaca, but should be when the upgrades are completed - though it will not matter as no-one will be able to afford the parking at the airports!

Plus of course, a route would have to be "available" from the civil Aviation Authority - you can't just turn up and start a service !

The answer is dead simple.

The Government and Cyprus Airways doesn't want the competition!!!

All it is doing is pricing/taxing itself out of reach. By the time they realise it will be way too late.

(tourism down 3 years in a row...derrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr) Insert braincell and remove anti-competiton gene.

I was under the impression that Cyprus is at or beyond the limit of budget airlines like Ryanair or Easyjet with their existing planes but I may be wrong. Do they fly beyond Cyprus from the UK?

Jerry........ I'm sure EasyJet and the like have the planes to get here. They just aren't wanted. Monarch are here but their fares are almost as expensive as CA. Over £500 for return tickets to the UK???? Outrageous.

One day that £500 or £600 will be the last I ever spend here as it will be a one-way ticket somewhere else!
